A message from Dr. Jennifer Atkins, Principal
This has already been a successful academic year for the kids at Copper Ridge! We have less than 40 instructional days left, and we plan to fill them with amazing lessons and activities. We wanted to let you know about some of the progress we have made to-wards our STAR School Plan for 2015-2016. We have a lot to be proud of this year!
Multi-leveled instruction to meet the needs of all students in ELA and Math. Our goal is to grow all kids at all levels at a rate faster than the district average. At our mid-year check, Copper Ridge Elementary kids were scoring AT/ABOVE the district in BOTH Reading and Math in growth and achievement scores!!!
Develop the capacity of K-5 teachers in ELA (English/Language Arts/Reading) instruction. We have amazing teachers already, but we are never satisfied and always strive to be better. We will focus our training on reading instruction throughout the year. As of March, Copper Ridge teachers have participated in at least 11 professional development sessions dealing with reading and in-struction. We appreciate all of the effort put in by our teachers!
Prepare students to master the writing objectives presented in the State Stand-ards for informational, opinion, and narrative essays. Copper Ridge students will increase their proficiency in writing to text and teachers will increase their knowledge of research-based writing instruction. After our writing units in 2nd – 5th grades, we examined the students writing and 89% of Copper Ridge stu-dents made significant improvements on their opinion and informative writ-ing!!!
How your donations help students learn:
We would like to thank the PTO and the Copper Ridge community for helping support our academics. With the purchase of the new computers for our second lab, our stu-dents have had the opportunity to practice their writing, to research important topics, and to participate in Moby Max to increase their understanding of important skills. As of March 30th, more than 5,300 online lessons have been completed and more than 330,000 problems attempted! The students love the opportunity to learn using the in-teractive website each week. We appreciate the continued support to increase our technology for students.
TNREADY Part 2 Schedule:
April 26th- Math
April 27th- Reading
April 28th- Social Studies
April 29th- Science
***Remember to have students to school on time each of these days and ensure that they have time for breakfast! We want students to do their very best to show off what they know!
