Gathered in a diverse set of urban “tribes”, wikipedians, digital artists, local media producers, fab labbers, arduinos and designers are creating new jobs and opportunities. A new generation of entrepreneurs and creative individuals is emerging in our cities. Makerspaces, incubators, labs, hackerspaces where people can design, test, scale and launch innovative ideas have popped up over the last years.
CreatiFI, a FIWARE accelerator, reached out to creative individuals, web entrepreneurs and SMEs to experiment with open source technology in order to build innovative products and services to increase the efficiency of and collaboration with other creative professionals and to boost the competitiveness of the Creative Industries in Europe.
This booklet provides you an overview of the portfolio of companies funded by CreatiFI. Enjoy the story of the 9 companies which where mentored and coached from conceptualizing their idea upto bringing it to market as well as the 8 companies which were selected through the Creative Ring Challenge in collaboration with the Smart Cities of Barcelona, Trento, Helsinki, Eindhoven, Ghent and Brussels.
Increasingly, our cities offer an innovation platform for artists, musicians, designers, filmmakers, app developers and start-up entrepreneurs. They enable new forms of co-creating, making, learning and trading that take advantage of new technologies while still recognizing the value of expertise and craft skills.
The Creative Ring has the ambition to share best practices for building vibrant creative ecosystems and build bridges between formal and informal communities of artists, creative talents, entrepreneurs, innovators and other stakeholders working in the Creative Industries.

As a game development company, we got a new potential product in our catalog. It added value to our studio and can become a solid revenue stream for our company over the years. Our product is a multiplayer quiz game, that can be played only in specific enabled places and where every player automatically joins a team based on location. The game combines a giant screen and common smartphones with real time sync through a website, without a need to download any app. In essence it is a collaborative trivia game where you answer questions as a team, battling eventually against other clans of other stages in the city. In our particular case we designed the experience to launch questions about Barcelona, but it is adaptable to multiple contexts and themes.

The hubs - Physical spaces where infrastructure, applications and the local community of Creative Industries and artists converge. A physical space for Creative Industries, entrepreneurs and citizens to experiment and develop their initiatives. A meeting point for open collaboration at local, city and regional level.The hubs are the gateways to the Creative Ring. The founding hubs of the Creative Ring are Aarhus (Denmark), Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Ghent (Belgium) and Brussels (Belgium). The additional CreatiFI hubs supporting the incubation process are Rovereto (Italy), Helsinki (Finland) and Barcelona (Spain). The Creative Ring, through its CreatiFI Creative Challenges and a range of common projects and events, is providing the first bridges between the different hubs, enriching the dynamic which is created at local level.
The local creative ecosystems can consist of a collaboration between:• Smaller creative hubs - communities that increase the capacity of creative individuals
and businesses to experiment, innovate and succeed;• Universities and other learning institutions who look for new forms of society
