Waiting periodBasic LifeLink® and Enhanced Critical Illness are living bene ts. This means the insured person must survive the onset of the critical illness for a period of 30 days (or as speci ed in each covered illness) before the bene t is paid. At the end of this 30-day period, the insured person must still meet the de nition of the critical illness as outlined in your group contract.
Pre-existing illnessesPre-existing illnesses are any illnesses which the employee, spouse or dependant has received medical treatment, consultation, care or services (including diagnostic measures) and/or for which he or she has been prescribed medication during the 24 months immediately prior to the e ective date of coverage.
The bene t is not payable as a result of any pre-existing illness unless the critical illness commences after 24 consecutive months of coverage. This clause does not apply to a child born while family coverage is in e ect. Medical underwriting is required only for late applicants.
