THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXPRESSIONS OF SYMPATHY
Alister, Hannah and I would like to sincerely thank the children,
parents, carers and the wider community for their messages of
sympathy, delicious cooking and thoughtful gestures. We have been
overwhelmed with love, support, friendship and good deeds since
Credi’s passing. Thank you to one and all, and a special thanks to
the staff at Cumnock Public who stepped up to the challenge under
the excellent leadership of Mr Sam West in my absence. We are in
awe of the community in which we live and the support we have
received from the Community of Schools group, the wider Cumnock
community and the many colleagues within the Department of
Education.
CUMNOCK PP5 RELAY 8TH IN STATE
Congratulations to Emily, Zali, Macey
and Charlie O for their outstanding
success in the PP5 Swimming Relay, at
the State Championships in Sydney on
the last Friday of term. Well done to our
team who qualified for the finals under
enormous pressure. We were delighted to be part of this event along with the team from Spring
Hill. What an amazing effort from our Small Schools in the Orange district! A huge vote of thanks
to Sarah Evans who cheered along with me and the wonderful parents, grandparents, and
friends who made this such a memorable occasion.
INAUGURAL CROSS COUNTRY COMMUNITY OF SCHOOL GROUP BRINGS RAIN TO CUMNOCK!
The inaugural OSSA Gold Cross Country Carnival last Friday at the Cumnock Golf Club and
Showground was a HUGE success and the RAIN did fall! Thank you to Peg Rudd for helping me
lay the foundations for the one, two and three kilometre tracks during the holidays. We
welcomed students and families from our COS group to participate in this exciting event and
acknowledge them all for braving the wet conditions. I would like to thank the Cumnock P & C,
and particularly Ray Lewis, for organising the delicious lunches, Paula Rudd for supplying the
coffee cart, Peg Rudd and Craig Whiley for setting up the event and the many community
volunteers including Jan Gibson and Stacey Kramer from the Cumnock Golf Club, who manned
one of the checkpoints. This was a wonderful opportunity to promote our school and village and
we appreciate the support from the Cumnock Golf Club and Show Society. Our special “Bush
Ambulance John Deere Gator” driven by Mr Glyn Bruce was a highlight! Thank you again to the
parents, friends and community members for their support!

ANZAC DAY 2019
On ANZAC Day, the children of Cumnock Public led the march to the beat of
the drummer, Ethan Lewis. This is always a special day of remembrance. We
welcomed our outstanding graduate teacher, Miss Eryn Midson, who
returned for our procession. I would like to thank Mrs Hubbard, Mrs McFarland
and Mrs Turner who worked hard to improve our singing capabilities in
preparation for the Anzac Service and to Mrs McFarland, Mrs Vickers and Mr
West who joined the march with our school group. The children sang
beautifully and we received many favourable comments in relation to their
conduct at the service. The readings delivered by Emily, Gracie, Ethan and
Jonathan were outstanding. Thank you again to our parents and friends who
gathered for this moving ceremony.
LONG WHITE LUNCH DATE SET FOR 28TH MARCH 2020
We are very appreciative and humbled that the Long White Lunch
Committee has decided to raise funds to support our Cumnock P & C in
2020 through their amazing white lunch event. This is an enormous
undertaking by a small, talented and dedicated group of ladies to
showcase our food and village and to raise much-needed funds for our
little school. Thank you to this willing and hard-working band of women,
led by Sarah Evans from the Cumnock Preschool, for their enthusiastic
commitment to our school and community! Save the date for this wonderful occasion in 2020!
A RIFLE FOR TROOPER JONES BEAR
We would like to thank the Astill family and their relatives, Terry and Robyn Kiernan
and Gary and Mary McGlone for the wonderful World War 1 replica rifle for
Trooper Jones Bear. We look forward to seeing Trooper Jones in his new glass case
which is under construction by Mr Don Bruce. Thank you again for this special
donation.
CONGRATULATIONS MRS VICKERS
We would like to congratulate Mrs Carmel Vickers for recently graduating from
Swinburne University in Melbourne. We are fortunate that Mrs Vickers is working in
our school each Wednesday for the remainder of the school year. Well done Mrs
Vickers and we wish you every success in your teaching career.
GIRL’S TIMEOUT PROJECT
Mrs Nelson, our Student Wellbeing Officer, has developed a wellbeing project for the Year 5 and
6 female students which will run for 6 weeks during lunchtime this term. The sessions will discuss self
-esteem, puberty, relationships, healthy exercise, healthy food choices and mental health, whilst
incorporating fun activities. The project aims to provide a safe and fun environment for the
female students to explore, explain and discuss various topics that impact on their social,
emotional and physical wellbeing. Thank you to Mrs Nelson for developing this program based
on the Wellbeing Framework for Schools. If you have any questions please contact Mrs Nelson on
Mondays and Tuesdays through the school office.

GOING, GOING, GONE!
The teacher residence attached to the school has been part of our community for a significant
number of years. During the holiday period, the residence was demolished and the area will
become part of the Cumnock Public school grounds. We have a number of projects in the
pipeline in regards to the Cumnock Public School Masterplan and we are looking forward to
revamping this area in the future. Thank you to Mrs Flick who captured the final resting place of
the residence at our local Cumnock tip. Please watch this space for further exciting
developments of this new area!
BILLIONAIRE BOY AT THE ORANGE CIVIC THEATRE AND A VISIT TO THE REGIONAL GALLERY
We appreciate the support we received from Michelle Pearce, manager of the Performing Arts
and Venues at the Orange Civic Theatre, which enabled our whole school to be part of the
performance of Billionaire Boy at the Orange Civic Theatre yesterday. “Twelve year old Joe has
everything a boy could ever want, from a golden underwater Ferrari to his very own cinema.
What Joe really needs is a friend……….and David Walliams’ best-selling book comes to life on
stage for 6 – 12 year olds – and their adults”. This was a wonderful production for our students
along with the special visit to the Orange Regional Gallery which was organised by Cecilie
Knowles. Thank you again for this opportunity!
NAPLAN ONLINE
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) assesses literacy and
numeracy skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. Students in
Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will participate in the annual NAPLAN tests in reading, writing, conventions of
language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy in WEEK 3. The assessment
provides parents and schools with an understanding of how individual students are performing at
the time of the tests. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process - it
does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance. Please
reassure your child that all that is required of them on the days is to simply try their best. If you
have any concerns or require further information, please come and see me.
PSSA OSSA GOLD SPORTING TEAMS
Congratulations to the many students who have trialled and will represent the OSSA Gold PSSA
sporting teams this term. We look forward to the boys’ and girls’ soccer, hockey and touch
football clashes in the PSSA competition and appreciate the support from the principals and
parents from our COS group for making this happen for our students. GOOD LUCK in your first and
second round clashes!
