Market Highlight
Asian stocks gained on Friday on upbeat
expectations for the closely-watched U.S.
jobs data, while the euro continued to flirt
with fresh nine-year lows.
Non-farm payrolls are seen posting 240,000
jobs in December and the unemployment
rate is expected to edge down to 5.7% from
5.8%.
Oil prices were heading for a seventh
weekly loss on Friday, with key
producers showing no signs of cutting
output in the face of a global supply
glut. Brent and U.S. crude futures both
hit their lowest since 2009 this week and
are down more than 50 percent from
June, although they inched up on Friday
after robust U.S. economic data
brightened the outlook for demand.
Natural gas futures rallied on Thursday,
after data showed that U.S. natural gas
supplies fell more than forecast last week.
On the New York Mercantile Exchange,
natural gas for delivery in February rose 2.8
cents, or 0.98%, to trade at $2.899 per
million British thermal units during U.S.
morning hours. Prices were at $2.881 prior
to the release of the supply data.
A day earlier, natural gas plunged 6.7 cents,
or 2.28%, to settle at $2.871.
