Entry forms are now out for our next Packard Rally in March 2018. Our rally will commence in Blenheim on Saturday 24th March at Scenic Circle Hotel at 5pm, for a meet and greet, distribution of rally packs and welcome dinner. The next morning we will depart Blenheim on State Highway 1, following the east coast until we reach Kaikoura. We then head inland for Hanmer Springs which is a beautiful thermal area. The following day the rally will then head over to Greymouth on State Highway 7 to begin our journey down the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
From Greymouth, we head down State Highway 6 to Franz Josef enjoying the wild beauty of the coast, which is quite different from the East Coast. We will have two days in Franz Josef where we will have a free day to explore the glaciers and other attractions in the area. After Franz Josef, we will continue on State Highway 6 following the coast to Haast, then we will head inland through the Haast Pass to Wanaka. WARBIRDS OVER WANAKA 2018 INTERNATIONAL AIRSHOW The rally will arrive in Wanaka (where the rally will be centred) for the Easter weekend to participate in the 30th Anniversary of the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow (www.warbirdsoverwanaka.co.nz). Whilst at the Airshow, our rally headquarters will be at the Warbirds & Wheels museum complex. We will have a room available for exclusive use by rally participants and all our evening meals will be held there. We have negotiated with the airshow organisers two complimentary Silver Airshow passes (value $279 each = $558) for Rally participants who will display their Packard/vintage car. A condition of receiving these Silver Passes is that entrants’ Packard/Vintage car must be on display at the Airshow from Thursday evening 29th March at 5pm until the airshow finishes on Sunday 1 April at 5pm. Security at the show will be tight, the grounds are monitored by 25 security guards all night. Your car will be safer than if outside your hotel. This Silver Pass entitles the bearer to entry to the event Friday, Saturday & Sunday. The airport is located 9km from the Wanaka township so bus vouchers will be provided to ALL rally entrants to transport them to and from the show for Thursday night, Friday, Saturday & Sunday. Bus transport will be provided after our evening functions at Warbirds & Wheels. The bus vouchers can be used at any time to get to the airshow, as there will be a continuous shuttle running between Wanaka and the airport from Friday through to Sunday.
If you have extra passengers or your car is not an approved vehicle, a range of ticket options are available to purchase through www.warbirdsoverwanaka.co.nz or phone 0800 224 224 (NZ Only) from 17 February 2017. As the rally is going to be based at the airshow, we recommend one of the following passes:
3 Day General Pass (no seating supplied) ................................. $180 plus booking fee and postage
3 Day Silver passes (Silver stand seating) ................................. $279 plus booking fee and postage
3 Day Gold Pass (Gold stand seating and hospitality marquee) ..... $409 plus booking fee and postage If the Airshow is not an attraction for you or if you cannot commit to having your car on display at the airshow, then maybe this Rally is not for you. ACCOMMODATION All Rally participants must book their own accommodation by 31st March 2017 We have a hold on 50 rooms at each accommodation venue until this date – first in first served. When making your bookings, please state you are part of the Packard Rally or use the booking number provided. Due to the popularity of Warbirds Over Wanaka, Wanaka accommodation is extremely tight and at a premium price, so if a booking is not made by this date, the held rooms will be released on the open market. By Easter 2017, most accommodation in Wanaka for the airshow weekend will be fully booked. The other areas we are staying at will have similar demand during this time of the year. The final dinner and prize-giving will be at The Venue, which is immediately across the road from Oakridge Resort within walking distance. MEALS: Evening meals are included in your entry fee every night except for your free night on Sunday 1st April. Alcohol is not included but there will be a cash bar available for those who wish to purchase. BYO will not be permitted (hotel policy). PHOTOS OF YOUR CAR We require a photo of your Packard / vintage car for the rally booklet. These need to be
good resolution for printing side on view no distracting backgrounds not too dark or light car to be on its own, with no other cars in the picture please do not take the photo of your car in your garage!! Take them outside.
If you are driving a modern / rental car, we do not require a photo of your vintage car, this is applicable only to the cars participating in the rally. Photos to be supplied by 31st December 2017. Participants are responsible for all other costs, including fuel, accommodation, all meals (unless prepaid in the entry form as above). Participants will receive a name badge in their Rally Pack, which must be worn to entitle them to pre-paid meals. A back up vehicle with trailer and tools will be the tail-end Charlie on the rally. Mechanics are available for minor repairs. Departure time of tail-end Charlie will be in the rally booklet. Non-liability of organisers of the DESTINATION WARBIRDS 2018 I as primary registrant for my vehicle enter and compete in the South Pacific Packards’ Destination Warbirds 2018 at my own risk, as do any persons who accompany me. In consideration of acceptance to participate in the event, I and any persons who accompany me agree to indemnify the organisers of the rally absolutely from and against any claim whatsoever that may be made upon them in respect to any accident, theft, damage or injury in which I or my passengers or the vehicle that I/we may be driving may be in any way directly or indirectly concerned and which may occur to any person or property whatsoever during the course of or in any way arising out of this event (including postponement thereof) and whether or not owing to the fault or negligence of any other rally participant, Official Organiser, or its committee whatsoever. I and those persons who accompany me at any time during the South Pacific Packards Destination Warbirds 2018 agree to abide by the conditions and warrant that all information and foregoing particulars are true and correct in every respect.
