Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton Dinner of Tribute
Dear YIPC,
It is with great pleasure and pride that we share, tonight, in the celebration of our YIPC, honoring Shlomie and Adina Merlmelstein and Elliot and Nechama Rosner.
These two extraordinary couples personify the values of our Shul in their tireless devotion to so many dimensions of our community.
For nearly their entire lives, Shlomie and Adina have known the Young Israel as their spiritual and communal home. Our vibrant Kehila is built upon the decades
of devotion of their parents and broader family, and continues to thrive through their energetic and creative dedication to our community. Shlomie and Adina are a
sensitive couple who deeply appreciate every facet of our Shul’s ideology and expe-rience. From opening their home for onegs and Yom HaAtzmaut celebrations, to
coordinating seats for Yom Tov and leading our tefilah; their energy is infectious and infuses our community with a true sense of vitality in all aspects of Shul life.
Adina’s natural talent as an extraordinary educator is evident in how their children, Nomi, Shoshana, and Moshe, are always involved in programs and events that their
parents have hosted. They have grown up with a sense of responsibility to give back to the community that raised them. The Mermelstein’s passion for all dimen-sions of the YIPC stands as a model for our entire community.
Elliot and Nechama Rosner are the quintessential Young Israel couple. Their loyal-
ty and dedication to the Shul sets an example for multiple generations within our community. Elliot and Nechama have been engaged in every aspect of the YIPC
experience for decades. From leading the Kehila in melodic Chazanus, to ensuring the ongoing function of our daily minyanim; Elliot is a true Shliach Tzibbur
(emissary of the congregation). Nechama’s sensitivity and love for all people infuses our Shul with an atmosphere of comradery and warmth. Her devotion as a Jewish
educator at YBH of Passaic, has motivated and inspired generations of students. The Rosner children, now all married, continue to contribute to their own commu-
nities, as well as our own. The Rosner’s decision to make Aliya stands as an exam-ple for our entire Kehila in living their lives through the values we all share in rec-ognizing the ultimate destination for the Jewish people.
The dinner is an opportunity for us to pay tribute to the many contributions and
accomplishments of our honorees, and recognize the larger growth of our Kehila and its impact upon the broader community. Your presence here tonight enhances
the vibrancy of our Kehila. It is a communal statement of your support and your dedication to the values that the YIPC represents, and continues to promote in all
that we do. Thank you again for your support, and may we share in many more communal celebrations together for many years to come.

Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton Dinner of Tribute
Mr. and Mrs Elliot and Nechama Rosner Nechama and Elliot has been stalwarts of the Young Israel of
Passaic-Clifton for more than 30 years, playing an active role in
both the shul and the Jewish community at-large. Their story, in
truth, is long intertwined with the Young Israel movement.
Born in the Bronx and raised in Kew Gardens Hills, Nechama
davened at the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills, where her
parents, Vivian and Isidore Chesner, z’l, were active and her father gave Bar-Mitzvah lessons without charge.
Nechama graduated Yeshiva of Central Queens, Yeshiva of Brooklyn, and Queens College. She has devoted her life to
Jewish Education, having taught at various synagogues and
yeshivot for many years, including YBH of Passaic for approxi-
mately 20 years.
As for Elliot, you can say that he was virtually conceived in
Young Israel. His parents, Edith and Irwin Rosner, z’l, first met
at an event at the Young Israel of Boro Park. There, his father worked, as well as at the National Council of Young Israel.
Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton Dinner of Tribute
Elliot grew up in Brooklyn just blocks from Ebbets Field, where the Brooklyn Dodgers played before relocating to Los Angeles.
He davened at the Prospect Park Jewish Center and later at the
Bialystoker Synagogue in the Lower East Side of Manhattan,
where he lived until 1984 when he and Nechama got married. After living for one year in Kew Gardens, N.Y., Elliot and
Nechama discovered Passaic through YIPC chazan and family
friend, Richie Stareshefsky.
Elliot has served as gabbai for many years, continuing to this day
in helping run the daily minyan. Professionally, Elliot has spent
much of his career working as an accountant for the federal gov-
ernment.
Elliot and Nechama have four married children and seven grand-
children: Esther & Shmuel Vann, Yitzy, Yaakov Shalom and Zvi Hershel;
Aliza & Shmuel Rosner, Coby and Kayla;
Chana Sara & Yussi Abramowitz, Ari and Adina Miriam;
Atara & Shua Stern

Mr. and Mrs Shlomie and Adina Mermelstein
Shlomie and Adina Mermelstein are among the longest members
of the Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton.
Adina was born just two years after her parents, Rabbi Chaim
and Leah Wasserman and three older brothers –Shmuel (z’l),
Daniel and Hillel - moved to Passaic in 1969. There, her father
served the pulpit for more than 35 years before he was succeeded
in 2004 by Rabbi Yaakov Glasser.
As for Adina, Passaic has always been her home. She attended
YBH when it was still called Hillel Academy. She then attended
Bruriah for middle and high school and has been involved in
Jewish Education ever since.
After starting out as a teacher at the Fair Lawn Jewish Center,
Adina was promoted to principal and held that position for seven
years. Shortly after her second child, Shoshana, was born, Adina
left FLJC to “take it easy” by starting a playgroup, managing a
summer day camp upstate New York and teaching music
Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton Dinner of Tribute
part-time at Kushner Academy.
For the past decade, Adina has worked as the elementary school
music director at Yeshivat Noam in Paramus, N.J.
Shlomie was born in Brooklyn and moved to Passaic with his
parents, Ernie (z’l) and Dora, in 1982. Shlomie attended high
school at Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim in New Haven, Ct. After two
years of learning at Yeshivat Neveh Tzion in Israel, he returned
and attended St. Thomas Aquinas, where he earned a BS in ac-
counting in 1990. He joined Mico Cooling Corp and has been
there for the past 26 years serving as its controller and CFO.
Shlomie and Adina married in 1990 and have three children:
Nomi, Shoshana and Moshe. The Mermelsteins take special
pride in sharing that virtually all their life cycle events have taken
place at the Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton. And, of course, their
home has been a center for many of the shul’s most-celebrated
programs, including the annual Yom Ha’Atzmaut celebration
and pre-Purim Friday night oneg.

and these characteristics come to mind:
Committed wholeheartedly.
Consistent with his service.
Amiable and strikingly humble.
What more would YIPC (or anyone) want of
Elliot Rosner
after having for decades kept a close eye on
whatever the morning minyan needed?
Nechama you share in this glorious honor for

Nomi: We are so proud that you have chosen to pursue a career
of teaching limudei kodesh which has been in our family for
generations. Your artistic flair combined with your knowledge
of Tanach adds so much color to our home on a week to week
basis. How many parents can say that they encourage their
children to color on the windows and tables? May you continue
to spread your happiness b’saver panim yafot.
Shoshana: The nachas we get from your drive to connect with
Jews seeking to learn more about Judaism is overwhelming.
Your dedication to your campers at Camp HASC ‘wowed’ us
as an example of your middah of V’ahavta l’rayacha Kamocha.
We are so impressed with your cool talents in hair, makeup,
graphic design and photography. Our bracha to you is that you
continue to grow and pursue your Avodah ShebaLev and
“put your husband in the oven a chicken.”
Moshe: We are so impressed with all of your accomplishments
this year. You are so quick to help others in need with a smile
and a golden heart. You exemplify the middah of Olam
Chessed Yibaneh. May Hashem bless with you with the ability
to grow and be successful in all of you pursuits. Your ‘Destiny’

Dear Abba and Imma,
Mazal Tov on this huge honor! We are so happy that
now, everyone gets to really see what we see every day of
our lives.
Being raised by such dedicated parents has really
revealed to us the ingredients for a meaningful life. You
have showed us that a lifestyle focused on giving is so
vibrant and fulfilling. That love is unconditional and
comes in unlimited amounts. And, that when you have
tried your absolute hardest, you know
you have succeeded.
These are really just a few of the things that have
impacted our day to day lives. Your involvement in
various events and parties has enhanced our yiddishkeit
so much. It has helped us internalize a deeper level of
Judaism, beyond just doing the motions. Your chessed
really has no bounds, whether it's hosting someone last
minute for Shabbat, or giving someone a ride late at
night. We are so fortunate to have been brought up in
such a solid, warm, and loving home, from which we
continue to grow every day. Thank you for being such
wonderful role models, supporters and parents.
Love you so much,

As relatives of Nechama and Elliot Rosner,
we are aware of their love and deep
commitment to the
Young Israel of Passaic-Clifton
and its nurturing community.
From the day they moved into the
neighborhood, they decided to join the shul
that was originally an old printing shop.
They had a vision to make it into a
Makom Kadosh that would attract many other
families.
Tonight, we are here to acknowledge their
accomplishments and dedication.
We also know that as they move on to the

Congratulations to the
Mermelsteins and the Rosners.
We have had the pleasure of watching Adina
and Shlomo grow up to be pillars of the
Young Israel as well as outstanding members
of the community.
They have raised 3 beautiful children and have
always been there for us in good times and bad
times.
Elliot and Nechama have given us the pleasure
of attending the weddings of their children
and we look forward to sharing in the
Mermelstein’s future simchas.
We have had the pleasure of listening to
Elliot’s davening and have watched him make
sure that there is a minyan every
morning.
Nechama was our grandson’s teacher in
YBH. We wish them much luck and good
health on their Aliyah to Israel this summer.

For coordinating the weekly Daf HaShavua shiur each week. From scheduling
the Maggidei Shiur, recording each week’s class, uploading the Shiurim online,
organizing the pickup of the weekly breakfast, and even some gentle cajoling for
people to attend:) - you are responsible for a lot of Torah learning each week, and
we greatly appreciate it.
To the Teen Minyan Coordinators
Dr. Scott Goldberg, Rabbi Elie Rothberger, and Ezra Nissel
For creating a meaningful Tefillah experience for our teen boys, and granting
them an opportunity to lead and oversee the smooth running of a Minyan (with
proper decorum!). You have fostered a true sense of Achdus amongst the partici-
pants as evidenced by the ever growing number of boys (both from the Shul and
the broader community) in attendance. Thank you as well to Mr. and Mrs.
Anonymous (you know who you are) For sponsoring the hot Kiddush (Chulent
