Gree ngs Foxes,
Our “Wings In The Spring” fundraiser was a huge success. Seventy-seven people a ended; we surpassed last years a endance. Todd Way lead a ride, while the people who stayed behind played Bingo. Food was good. Door prizes and money were won.
I want to thank all of my staff for a job well done. Thank you to Greg and Marycarmen Swanberg for se ng the missing man table in honor of our good friend David Gardner.
With restaurants star ng to reopen we will start having our dinner and dessert rides again. Check your e-mails for places and mes.
Till we meet again!
Happy Trails!
FROM THE HEAD FOX CA1F Chapter Director
Mary Brinker
Assistant Chapter Director: Todd Way Hello All! Welcome to Spring.
We had a very successful FunRun on March 20th with good a endance and people from many parts of Southern California. Since we were the first to have a rally this year, we should get some well deserved a en on. I want to give a big thanks to all who helped with the setup and teardown and the food prepara on and all the shopping involved. Now we can begin a regular monthly chapter mee ng and some rides and events.
We have a 4 day trip planned for May 14 up to Merced and then a couple of loops toward Yosemite and the gold country. We are also considering a mul day trip over to northern New Mexico.
It’s me to check the maintenance on your motorcycle… res, oil, brake fluid etc. We want to be ready to ride as the season warms up. As another thought, as the temperature raises, be ready to hydrate with bo les or a camelback. Don’t get dehydrated and have problems. The first symptom of dehydra on is lack of appe te followed shortly by illogical thoughts and ac ons. Within an hour or more, symptoms progress to paranoia and you will find yourself under a bush hiding from those who want to help. You should drink un l your stomach sloshes even if you are not thirsty!
I’ll finish by asking you all to come to the chapter mee ngs to support our chapter and to show respect to those who are making it happen. Any me you would like to offer input, we want to hear from you.

Hi CA1F Family,
We’re about done with rain for a while, which means the temperature is going to go up as well... and that means knowing how to survive riding in the heat, especially here in the desert southwest!
I’ve posted before about evapora ve cooling and how to defeat the “Heat-factor” of warm wind blowing across you as you ride. In any wind that is warmer than 94 degrees (F), you’ll experience the opposite of wind-chill, where the wind actually adds heat to your body (like a blow torch) instead of cooling you. The reason sweat-cooling will not work on in hot wind, is that it strips the moisture right off your skin before it has a chance to cool you down. ...This is not like a day at the beach with a cool breeze; hot wind requires that you have fabric holding moisture close to your skin while it evaporates in order to get any cooling effect.
You can counter heat-factor the same way you counter wind-chill, by simply covering your skin from direct wind exposure. This can be as simple as wearing a long sleeve T-shirt, but covering that with a ven lated jacket is even be er. Then, as long as your bike is rolling with wind moving across you, your sweat will wick onto your clothing, evaporate in place, and cool you down. You can augment this by we ng your sleeves and upper torso for an even chillier ride, or wearing a moisture-wicking material to evenly spread your sweat over a larger area. Some riders even go a step further and soak a sweatshirt or specialized “Cool Vest” in water before they ride, and wear that under a vented jacket. Note: Evapora ve cooling won’t work in extremely humid weather. For that, you need to think about wearing ice packs inside your jacket.

Where Can I Take an Advanced or Experienced Rider Course?
We are frequently asked where these courses are available so here is a list of the
courses in California that are accepted by GWRRA National Rider Education. If you
come upon a class that is not listed, please contact us and we’ll check to be sure it’s ap-
proved before you take it.
GWRRA offers Advanced Rider and Trike Rider Courses at various times throughout
the year. Generally these are available at District rallies and at Wing Ding. Additionally if
an instructor and an appropriate facility are available the courses may be available at
other times during the year and we will put that information out to the Chapter.
Lee Parks Total Control Advanced Rider Clinic now runs the California Motorcyclist
Safety Program for the CHP. The schedule is available on line & course locations vary.
Additionally if you are former military and have access to a base, you can take the Total
Control Intermediate course on a space available basis. Unfortunately they do not take
trikes.
Street Masters Precision Cornering Workshop is based out of Corona and the
course is held in Rosamond at the Willow Springs Race Track on Horsethief Mile. All
their information is available on line. They do a trike class as well as a 2-wheel class.
The Honda Rider Education Center in Coulton is located close to the 215/10 freeway
junction at 1301 Via Venita. Their phone # is 909-430-3000. The contact person is Gary
Johnson and Mercedes does the class scheduling. The class is open to all GWRRA
Members. The BRC-2 class (formerly known as the Experienced Rider Course or ERC)
takes 4-5 hours primarily on the course and costs $75. There also is a 7 hour ERC class
targeted to Military sport bike riders.
You can call and fit into an already scheduled class or a group of 5-6 can arrange their
own group class. If a second instructor is available the class could be 10-12 students.
Unfortunately, they do not take trikes.
We hope this information is helpful.
