Dr Mohd Arif Rosli has conducted a short course on ‘Basic for Modelling of Experi-mental Adsorption Isotherm on October 20th 2017, at Bilik Tutorial 3, FKAAS, UTHM. The main aim of the short course is to enhance research quality by using basic modeling of adsorption which in-cluded of three models; Langmuir Model, Freundlich Model and Brunaeur, Emmett, Teller (BET) Model. All these model are tailored to the needs of scientists and en-gineers. The difference between this
three models are each of them had own specialty in terms of adsorp-tion models which they ease user to construct model and collect data
#13rd Knowledge Sharing Session entitled ‘My Journey to an Academic Ca-
reer’ by Dr Adel Ali Saeed. A long journey from Postdoctoral Staff turns into
Senior Lecturer in Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, FKAAS. The
price of his hardwork and perseverance. Despite all the obstacles, he thankful
to Allah because he managed to going through it and settle everything from
communication problem up to a fulfillment to be an academic staff. He shared
that in every problem we need a good strategy in order to solve the problem
especially in communication and research which inspired others to be as en-
thusiasm as him. After all, congratulations Dr Adel!

Young Researchers for Water and Environmental Engineering Symposium
(YRWEES 2017) and Short Course
This is the first symposium organized by Micro Pollutant Research Centre (MPRC), held on
21st October 2017 at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia under the chairmanship of Associ-
ate Professor Dr. Radin Maya Saphira Radin Mohamed. The symposium was declared opened
by Associate Professor Dr Norzila Binti Othman who is the Deputy Dean (Research, Develop-
ment and Publications), Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Universiti Tun Hus-
sein Onn Malaysia.
In her opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr Norzila Binti Othman congratulated the organizers and
participants for actualizing the symposium. She stressed the need for participation of postgrad-
uate students in extra-curricular activities such as this symposium which could give them upper
hand in their future endeavours’. She further explained that, participation could improve re-
search skills and indicates a clear interest of research and knowledge dissemination among
young researchers. YRWEES 2017 was conducted in two sessions, session 1 was short course
while session 2 was oral paper presentations.
The short course was attended by forty (40) candidates, the followings courses were studied:
-How to write a research paper and get it published by Dr Adel Ali
-Thesis writing format & Getting started with Mendeley by Dr Ahmad Rizal Alias
Twenty seven papers were presented during the oral presentation session at three parallel sessions chaired by Dr Siti Nazahiyah
Binti Rahmat, Dr Nor Amani Filza Binti Mohd Kamil and Dr Paran Gani.
The best paper award under Environmental Engineering was awarded to a paper titled “Indoor fungal growth on variable
antifungal at different wall finishing on plasterboard” authored by N.M.Sunar,M. Subramaniam, N.F. Zulkifly, U. K. Parjo, C. M.
Er, A. M. Leman, A. Khalid, R. Ali, E. Zaidi and A.T.S. Azhar. The best presenter for
Environmental Engineering category was awarded to ER
Chin Ming, he presented a paper titled “Indoor And Outdoor
Surface-growing Fungi Contamination at Higher Institutional
Buildings”. For Water Resources papers, the best paper award
was given to a paper titled “Treatment of Shallow Groundwa-
ter Quality for Non-potable Use: A Case Study of Parit Raja,
Batu Pahat, Johor” authored by Fitryaliah Mohd Shahli, Siti
Nazahiyah Rahmat, Syafiqa Ayob and Ernieza Hazlin Mohd
Hata. The best presenter award in this category was also
awarded to Fitryaliah Mohd Shahli.
In her closing remarks, YRWEES 2017 chairperson Associate Professor Dr Radin Maya Saphira Radin Mohamed who is also the
Director Micro Pollutant Research Center thanked and congratulated the participants for the success of the symposium. She also
congratulated the award winners and wished others for their turn in future events. The chairperson advised the participants to fully
utilize the knowledge acquired during YRWEES 2017.

Community in River (COIR) program was held in Kluang, Johor on 23rd
October 2017. The program was involved by some civil engineering
students from UTHM. Y.B Datuk Haji Ayub bin Rahmat had inaugurate
the program. The purpose of the program was to give a knowledge on
protect river and nature also ties connection between government depart-
ments, agencies, youth and communities that living close to the river.
COIR had been collaborated between Department of Irrigation and
Drainage and Youth Council of Kluang district. Assoc Prof Dr Radin
Maya and Dr Ali Saeed were in charged to manage our trip to Mengkibol
River. All are volunteered to do gotong-royong remove and collect
rubbish also help to clean area alongside the river. A big thanks to Jabatan
Pengairan dan Saliran, Kluang for organising this event and let us do our
part to clean our nature.
A visiting professor program by our principal researcher, Prof Ir
Dr Amir Hashim Mohd Kassim at the School of Science and
Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture,
Saga University, Japan on 24 October to 3 November 2017.
A lot of knowledge and new innovation been shared and discussed
during that trip. During exhibition tour in the university, their inno-
vation on water treatment system are well developed which really
care on environmental and nature. Their culture itself shown a posi-
tive impact on their environment and lifestyle.

Our head of MPRC has given a chance to be a speaker at the Nigerian International Student's Forum Universiti Tun Hus-sein Onn Malaysia UTHM(NISFU) colloquium.
The theme of the colloquium is Sustainability in Emerging Technologies: A Multi-Disciplinary Perspective held at the Al-Jazari Auditorium, Tunku Tun Aminah Library on 7 No-vember 2017.
The idea behind this colloquium is to explore sustainability
from a multi-disciplinary perspective and give broad ideas
to students to build resilient community.

On November 2, #14th KSS entitled “Supervisor: Forging a Relationship” was organized. The invited speaker for this ses-sion was Mohd Khairil Anbia Chi Adam, who is PhD students from FKMP and actively involved as President of UTHM Graduate Student Associate (gsa). His knowledge and experiences in research journey was really affected by the relation-ship with supervisor which make him to share a forging relationship with supervisor. We at MPRC are grateful for his sharing and it is indeed a good sharing for oth-ers.
On 7th November 2017, one discussion on research and development collaboration was held.

Yusoff and Dr Azizi Yusoff with Encik Asnawi, engineer of the Department of Irrigation and
Drainage Engineer of Batu Pahat, Johor for research and development collaboration. They
hope with this collaboration could results in a new improvement for irrigation and drainage
performance.

His shared about the indus-trial revolution 4.0 world-wide and how we can inline with the exponential change driven by technological in-novation. He shared about his passion in producing new invention to meet the marketplace.

pate by 20 students. This short course was conducted

Its our MPRC last meeting for 2017 and reminiscing our activities for better 2018 and our end
of the year gathering. Thank you to all MPRC members and communities for your part in our
