V. SPECIAL SKILLS
a. Computer Literacy: Fully conversant with PC Computers and state-of-the-art
database management and economic analysis software including Stata, GTAP,
SAS, SPSS, NLogit, and Eviews. Familiar with, and have used Geographical
Information Systems (GIS) software ArcView, ArcInfo, and ArcGIS.
b. Household Surveys: Long experience in household surveys and data analysis (both
cross-section and longitudinal panel data) for Bangladesh and India. In-depth
knowledge of collation, processing, management and analysis of district and country
level data. Led panel household surveys conducted from more than 1800 households
located in 42 villages in India and Bangladesh for the period 2009/10 to 2014/15.
Panel datasets have been disseminated through the VDSA website
(http://vdsa.icrisat.ac.in) as Open Access. More than 1,200 researchers and students
from about 250 universities and institutions located in 45 countries have been using
the VDSA databases.
c. Database Management: Led the development of the VDSA Knowledge Bank,
technically a Data Warehouse (http://vdsakb.icrisat.ac.in/),with online analytical
processing (OLAP) features. It is the first of its kind for management of rural
household survey data in the world. It provides ready-to-use summary reports on key
performance indicators (income, asset, copping pattern, rainfall pattern, productivity
and profitability, credit, etc.) of rural economy as well as customized reports for end-
users. The Knowledge Bank uses Microsoft SQL and Microsoft Business Intelligence
(MSBI) tools for its development. It is the single source repository of all household
survey data collected for 1975 to 2008 by ICRISAT, and from 42 villages in India
and Bangladesh (2009/10 to 2013/14) through the VDSA project. With this new
innovation, web-based dissemination of data is more efficient and users have been
benefiting through reduction in their pre-analysis data formatting time.
d. Expert in econometric analysis, use of multi-market models and Geographical
Information Systems (GIS) and rapid rural appraisal techniques.
e. Language Proficiency:
English : Fluent in reading, writing and speaking.
Bengali : Fluent in reading, writing and speaking.
Hindi : Limited ability to speak and read.
VI. HONOURS, DISTINCTIONS AND FELLOWSHIP

The CGIAR Science Council’s Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA) identified two of my studies on impact assessment (one on spillover impacts of
sorghum research at ICRISAT, and another on impacts of research and dissemination
of ‘GIFT Tilapia’ by the WorldFish Center) as good examples of emerging ‘best
practice’ as being particularly meritorious in terms of quality of analysis and
presentation. The SPIA identified only six studies, out of 30 individual case studies
on impact assessments done by the CGIAR Centres during 2003-2005, for such
special recognition.
Fellow, Salzburg Seminar, Session 431: Completing the Doha Round: Bridging the Agricultural Divide (30 Apr - 05 May 2006)
Obtained First Class in all public examinations.
Affiliate Research Scholar, Social Sciences Division, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines (July 1993 to November 1995). Conducted research on the
