Client Prole
Drupal Partners - Case StudyDrupal Development For eCommerce Hat Company03
This company’s main stream of income is their eCommerce website. Their previ-
ous development company migrated the eCommerce portal from .net to Drupal.
But this migration was incomplete. Here are the key challenges the client faced:
Sales orders on the newly migrated Drupal site did not sync with client’s QuickBooks Enterprise software. Hence the accounting department staff went haywire, struggling to track the orders.
Orders came in to THub, 24 hours after they were placed. Since orders were not easy to track, merchandising department could not ship the right products to the right customers on time.
Lack of product reviews from current customers.
Half of the users did not receive order conrmation emails and account registration conrmation emails.
The site was very slow, and user experience was frustrating.

Client’s Challenge

We completely analyzed their current site and identied the
issues with their shopping cart setup. We moved from Ubercart to
Drupal Commerce, as the latter is more suited for a Drupal 7 site.
We then wrote a custom Drupal modules to sync customer orders
to THub and therefore QuickBooks. THub was the bridge that con-
nected Drupal store orders to QuickBooks.
Wholesale customers could not make purchases while they could create their user account.
Inaccurate, manual sales tax calculation for orders were in place.
Lacked the popular PayPal payment capabilities.
No web analytics tracking.

When authorize.net approves a purchase, it took 24 hours for
THub to pull the orders. This was not effective for our customer.
We customized the code such that the orders in Drupal back end
sync with THub instantaneously. This way the client has real time
information about their sales. It also made managing nances
and accounting much simpler.

The Client's Problems

User reviews for products inuence future customers in their pur-
chase decision. Though they had excellent products, there were
literally no user reviews. We knew that implementing a review
Drupal module would not cut it. Hence, we recommended and im-
plemented Yotpo user review system. A customer would receive a
review request email after a few days since their order. The
beauty of this email is that the user can review a product they
bought, bought, without going out of that email. This is quick, easy and ef-
fective for the users to rate a product and the company is benet-
ting out of such reviews.

This eCommerce site pages had terrible load speed, as they were
on a shared server with below par infrastructure. As a result, their
page speed score was abysmal. We recommended and ex-
plained the benets of switching to a newer and better server.
Thus we moved the application hosting to Amazon EC2 servers
and the database to Amazon RDS. Now the client and their cus-
tomers are extremely happy about the site’s performance and
ease of use.

As pointed out above, this site was on a shared server with other
applications hosted on it as well. We believe one or more of the
other applications (sites) hosted on this server may have been
blacklisted and, as a result, the client’s email delivery took a
major hit. Many of the order conrmation emails did not reach
customers and hence they end up calling the client worrying
about the order they made. Similarly, when customers created
useruser accounts, they were not able to log back in with the same
credentials and track their orders online. We completely re-wrote
the user administration modules that allowed customers to log-
in/register without any hassles. Also, now they are able to access
their past orders and track current orders.

We integrated with Avatax API to eliminate the inaccuracies in
sales tax calculations. Earlier the site was calculating the tax
based on a static, inaccurate data table. The data was not current
and erroneous. Avatax integration made the tax calculation aw-
less.

Our team educated the client’s team on the benets of Google An-
alytics and integrated the same in the eCommerce portal. Now
the client has a thorough insight of what their best and worst sell-
ing products are, the effectiveness of their specials page, where
the user abandons, number of unique users and user conversions.
07
Customers love PayPal. We integrated with the PayPal Pro API, al-
lowing the user to make payments to their PayPal account. Over
23% of the payments made on their site is now through PayPal.

On their eCommerce portal, only retailers could buy products.
We built a completely new workow that allows a user to register
as a wholesaler and make purchases on their own at half of the
retail price. This has led our client to on-board 65% more whole-
salers than that they had before we came on board.
