INITIAL FILE MASTER FILE
NOTE TRANSPORTATION AND LEDGING OF APEX, RESULTING IN AN INADEQUATE SEAL, WHICH WILL MOST LIKELY LEAD TO FAILURE OF THE ENDODNTIC THERAPY
Goals of Cleaning and Shaping
• Biologic “rid” the root canal system of its pulp, necrotic tissue, bacteria and endotoxins, creating an environment condusive to healing and patient comfort
• Mechanical create a continuously tapering preparation that can be obturated in three dimensions

Instrumentation can be accomplished by:
• Mechanical means
-hand instruments such as SS files, broaches, ultrasonics
-rotary instruments such as GG, NiTi
• Chemical means
-irrigants such as NaOCl, EDTA, alcohol, RC Prep, CHX

RADIAL LAND
• keeps file centred in canal, thus preventing ledges transportation of apex
• transports debris coronally, minimizing the chance of instrument failure

DR. M GUIDELINES
• Know your anatomy (off-angled x-rays)
• Straight line access (crown down approach)
• Confirm patency (accurate length)
• Don’t push too hard (lead pencil pressure)
• Don’t stay too long (keep the file moving)
• When you are done, get the hell out
• Never take a rotary file where a hand file has not been (glide path)
DR. M GUIDELINES (con’t)
• Check files after each use
• Clean flutes after each ue in the canal
• Change files regularly
• Irrigate frequently
• Practice
