JUNE- ALMOST HALF A YEAR IS GOING ,
GOING, GONE... We are still basking in the glow of the wonderful spring 2016
conference and already preparing for 2017 conference.
We have many photos to still share with all of you. Hopefully we all are recovered
from the spring flu and other viruses that plagued so many, and now up and at ‘em
again. Now we must be ready for summer activities such as graduations, end of
school, Fathers day, weddings, gardens, planting,
vacations, relatives visits, camping, picnics, travel,
sightseeing, and so much more. Now all the trees
and plants are in full bloom or bathed in shades of lush green and oh so
beautiful. Time to go plein air outdoor painting if you want inspiration.
Don’t forget those photographs. They come in as great reference later and
recall the moment of inspiration as when taken. Photos are needed for
reference for those who paint realistic subjects, especially birds and animals
that only give us a fleeting moment to capture. We can paint flowing water,
the ocean waves and a babbling brook that always inspire a cool retreat on
hot summer days. Kids or dogs splashing in a puddle, pond, rain, or ‘ole swimming hole’ are pleasing
subjects.
I recently acquired a book by Robert Bateman, famous Canadian painter and he used photos for reference for
his wild life paintings. He followed the photo closely, but when needed he would then add his expertise to
create mood, arrange, or change to create his award winning realistic paintings found in museums, English
royal homes, and government exhibits.
CALL IS OUT FOR TEACHERS TO SUBMIT SUBJECT PAINTINGS FOR OUR NEXT TEAM
S.E. REGIONAL 4 DAY CONFERENCE MARCH 30- APRIL 2 , 2017. Get your submissions to
Cindy Makowski before AUGUST 15 DEADLINE...
EXCITING NEWS !! Themes for the next two years was chosen. 2017 will go back to Medieval times with
the theme of “RENAISSANCE “. 2018 will take us to “LAS VEGAS” theme. So you can watch for
costumes and ideas to fit those themes. Think of Ladies of the Court, Queens and Kings, jesters, musicians,
scullery
maids, Robin
Hood, and so
much more
in medieval
times. Old
masters
paintings
would be a
good source
of ideas.

TEACHERS
The date has been set for the “RENAISSANCE “Conference in St Simons, GA. We will
be meeting Thursday MARCH 30- APRIL 2, 2017, as always with the option to stay
over until Monday April 3rd.
It’s that time again! It’s time to be thinking about submitting paintings for the Planning
Committee to review for the 2017 S.E. Conference. I know it seems early for you, but
we are already well on our way to planning another fabulous event for you!
Your submission does not have to follow the event theme but we do however need your
submission by August 15th. The submission form is attached for your convenience.
You may submit as many entries as you would like for no cost! Submissions are for 3
or 6 hour classes. Please keep in mind the schedule is tight and there is no wiggle room.
The projects needs to be completed within the 3 or 6 hour blocks so you may want to
think 2 1/2 and 5 1/2hours so no one is rushed. Our biggest complaint is that the projects
are squeezed in and needed more time.
As a reminder you are paid $75 for a 3 hour class and $150 for a 6 hour class plus the $15 prep fee per student
for your project surface. There is more room for 3 hour classes than there is for 6 hour classes so you have a
better chance for a 3 hour project to be chosen. You supply the surface for the painting and the prep work
prior to the class. TEAM has limited brands of paints and colors available. You are welcome to use any and all
of these paints. Should you wish to use TEAM’s, please attach a list of the colors needed for your project and
we will confirm the availability, otherwise you are responsible for supplying the paints for your class. Some of
you have requested an inventory, however it has been decided that this is too cumbersome and may cause
duplication of usage.
If you are able to do your painting in acrylic or oil, please advise your preference, and if needed, would you
be willing to do it in the other medium. We are asking this due to sometimes limited submissions in a
particular medium.
Keep in mind cleaners and thinners such as turpentine even odorless for use with oil paints is not permitted in
the building. Baby oil is the recommended substitute for brush cleaning in the class room.
If you have any questions, please feel free to
reach out to me via e-mail at
call me in the EVENINGS at 904-501-4432.
We are looking forward to some more wonderful
submissions this year.
Thank you, Cindy Makowski

2016 DESIGNERS COLORS. By Gloria Stegman
(Few excerpts taken from E-mail)
I learned many years ago as Certified Artist for
Grumbacher that the trend colors of the car
industry, and the house wares industry sets the
pace for the color trend worldwide each year.
Also paint companies use these trends to increase
their industry sales. When these designated colors
are used in paintings it will inspire people to buy
as it is the trend for the present fashion and style. Designers look for those colors in wall
art when decorating for their clients.
Color watchers look everywhere, in showrooms, trade shows and
magazines for trends. They have to consider anything and
everything that might impact our cultural mood. At the end of the
day, they translate for us, the colors we will be seeing in the next
year. The indicators for 2016 are that we will be noticing bright
happy colors with the top choices being a wide spectrum of pinks,
peaches and corals. These warm and sophisticated pastels are being
offset by soothing cool tones, such as lilac, grey and blues, going all
the way into a sea aqua tone. There is a softer take on color for 2016:
Suggested happy light colors for us a painters are, pastel peach,
light mix of cad red/orange ,cerulean blue , pastel blue, pastel
lavender, Cad Yellow light, burnt sienna and Thalo green light. While there has been a
design trend towards white in the last several years, there is no indication of its
popularity fading. So even within the presence of these cheery colors, it is notable that
the color White remains ever present in our trending palette and an essential design
element. "White is powerful, - it is either taken for granted or obsessed over. White is not
just a design trend, it is a design essential. The popularity of white, the necessity of white, is
always in our industry; often a splash of color enhances a whole look of a room or painting.

CREATIVE AND DETERMINED
CROOKS
Gloria shares information she received on a new scam: BREAKING—New Email Scam Targets Nonprofit Leaders Even people who normally spot fraudulent emails fall for this. Michael E. Batts Nonprofit financial leaders are receiving fraudulent emails that genuinely appear to be from
their superiors, and these emails ask them to wire or transfer funds to a bank account in connection with the nonprofit organization’s activities.
In a nutshell, the scammers spend time on the non-profits website looking for the leaders and their emails and any nicknames they may go by. Then, the scammers identify the top financial
person (along with any nickname) and his or her email address. The email will be sent to the person the scammers have identified as the organization’s top
financial leader. And using the leaders hacked email, they send out an urgent email needing funds immediately. The email will contain instructions, using nicknames if applicable, to wire or transfer money
to a particular account in connection with a project or activity in which the top leader is allegedly involved.
There are many ways to avoid being a victim of fraud but the bottom line is,
be suspicious of unsolicited emails and calls, don’t agree to anything
immediately, if you must reply, simply say you’ll have to get back to them
shortly. Then share with supervisors or co-workers and call the numbers you already have on hand, don’t use any phone numbers included in the email or
scam. Remind yourself that there are tons of scams happening every day and
it’s better to take extra steps to hopefully not become the next victim.
From Terri Clements On Monday the 30th our Visa card was denied at the cleaners. My husband called the card company
and they had detected some odd behavior so put a block on the card. Sure enough, someone (s) had
used our card at an all night Walgreen’s 5 times in a row, only minutes apart. Keep in mind, our cards
are not missing. After a call to the Sheriff’s department I was informed most card number thefts occur
at eating establishments. The crooks carry a tiny scanner that will hold up to 50 cards’ information.
They later use a blank gift card and transfer that information to it and shop with it. They hand the
card off to other people just after using it and the clerk never
notices. The Detective said this is their biggest criminal issue at
present and there is no good resolution. So check your card
information often.
Another big scam is a caller pretending to work for the fraud
division at one of the large credit card companies, even providing a
fake name and badge number. They already have your card name
and number so they provide that to you but want to be sure you have
your card in your possession and ask for the security numbers on the
back (the only thing they don’t have).
