Personalised Learning Environments (PLEs)
Learners take control of and manage their own learning.
Learners: set their own learning goals manage their learning; managing both content and
process communicate with others in the process of learning
(adapted from a definition by Mark van Harmelen, June
2006).
Connected learning environments
Connected learning is based on three principles: Connection: Investigation, development and
deployment of Internet-enabled technologies to connect people who have a goal i.e. education, personal interest, investigation
Experimentation : learning by doing in a safe, trusted environment
Learner-Centered: A greater degree of self-determination and customisation of the experience particularly in education

is attitudinal; that one can and should be open to new ideas, decisions, skills or behaviours.
Lifelong learning throws the axiom "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" out the door.
provides learning opportunities at all ages and in numerous contexts: at work, at home and through leisure activities, not just through formal channels

Issues
less under the control of specialised web designers and closer to the concept of the web as a democratic, personal, and DIY medium of communication.
Empowers the individual and provides an outlet for the 'voice of the voiceless'; or it elevates the amateur to the detriment of professionalism, expertise and clarity.
It is not a product or object, but a concept that describes certain aspirations or internet tendencies.
