EMA WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Week of 3-9-2009
Issue 4.6 Entertainment Management
Association ‘08-‘09
Hello EMA Members & Friends!
Hello Everyone!!
It was a beautiful weekend and we hope everyone was able to get outside and enjoy the
warmer weather! Don’t forget that the deadline for payment & membership
applications is TODAY! In order to be eligible for funding for trips, tours, &
socials, you must pay your dues and fill out an online application today. If you
have any questions, please contact an EMA leader. St. Patrick’s Day is also right
around the corner followed by Spring Break, so enjoy the next few weeks and
hope for more nice weather!
Next EMA Meeting: The next EMA meeting will be held next Wednesday, March 18th at 5
p.m. in Glass 102. Leader nominations will be held, so make sure to talk to current leaders if
you are interested in taking a position next year. Elections will follow after Spring Break.
Event Spotlight: Broomball Social
The first official EMA social of the semester will be held on
Wednesday, March 18th from 10 p.m.-12 a.m. We will be
playing broomball at Mediacom Ice Park, similar to hockey
only there are no ice skates and you use a broom and ball to
try and score against the opposing team. Cost is still to be
determined and depends on how many people sign up. The
more people that go, the cheaper it will be for everyone! So
bring as many friends as you would like. If you have any
questions or would like to go, contact Matt Bosslet, EMA
Vice President, at [email protected].
Reminder: In order to be eligible for funding for trips, tours, and events you must apply for
membership online at http://theemlife.com or the EMA Facebook webpage and pay your
dues by Monday, March 9th, 2009. Dues for new members are $35 (which includes an EMA
polo) and returning members are $20 per semester. Payments are now ONLY accepted
online at the EMA Facebook webpage, for questions about payment, contact Zack Larsen at
[email protected]. Also, students in Dr. Rothschild’s class will get 3 extra
credit points for every event they attend and 1 extra credit point for chalking before
meetings, but you must be a paying member in order to get the points.
Member Spotlight: Anthony Miller is a senior Entertainment
Management Major focusing on Music Management. He hopes
to move to California after graduating and find a job doing
anything in the music industry. Eventually Anthony wants to
manage his own music career, have his own recording studio
and production company. His favorite EMA event so far was the
Super Bowl in Tampa and he is most looking forward to going to
more of the socials and volunteer events this semester.
Anthony was formerly in a band for two years and will be doing
an internship for Q102 radio here in Springfield this summer.
Something you might not know about Anthony is that his first
and second airplane rides were during the Super Bowl Trip! Fav quote: "All men dream, but
not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day
to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act
on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible"-Thomas E. Lawrence. Say HI to
Anthony at the next EMA event!

favorite thing in EMA so far was the Super Bowl trip. It was an
experience she will never forget and cannot wait until next year.
Kristi has an internship this summer with Missouri Sports Hall of
Fame and will work with three other interns in planning the Price
Cutter Charity Championship, part of the Nationwide PGA tour. She

Springfield. Mike’s favorite EMA event so far was the Chicago

excited about going on the Dallas trip during Spring Break.
Something interesting you might not know about Mike is that
he performs a lot around town. His last couple of
performances have been at the Landers Theatre where he was a living tree in Narnia

Hello EMA Members & Friends!
Happy Valentine’s Day!
We hope everyone was able to enjoy the wonderful weather this
weekend and relax a little before heading back into another week
of school. Valentine’s Day is this Saturday guys, so make sure to
spend some quality time with that special someone. Also, thanks
to everyone who came to our last EMA meeting. We had a great
time recapping the trips to the SuperBowl and Pollstar and
watching the awesome new EMA video thanks to Matt & Doug!
Check it out on the EMA Facebook Webpage if you haven’t done so already.
Event Spotlight: Leader Elections
Leader elections for the 2009-2010 school year will be coming up
before you know it. We will hold nominations at the EMA meeting
on March 18th at 5 p.m. You can nominate yourself or a friend for
any position. The only restriction is that nominees for President
must have been an EMA leader previously. The elections will then
follow on April 1st. For information about the EMA leadership
positions, be sure to check out Blackboard for more in depth
descriptions. Also, if you are interested in a position contact the
current leader to learn more about what they do throughout the
year. We look forward to seeing what the new leaders can bring to
the organization next year!

emphasis in sports with a minor in
advertising and promotions. She is from
Grain Valley, MO (near Kansas City) and
plans on getting a job in sponsorship in Drag
Racing after she graduates. Once Heather
has her foot in the door, she plans on racing
professionally in the Top Fuel Dragsters. She
has been Drag Racing for 13 years and the
first day at the track was when she was 10 days old. Heather feels that racing is truly in her
blood. This semester Heather really enjoyed the Super Bowl trip and getting to know
everybody. She looks forward to meeting more people and expanding the relationships
she’s already made. Many people don’t know that Heather got in a Drag Racing accident
when she was 13 years old, causing her to lose a finger, which she likes to joke around
about. Her words of advice: “Experience is everything.” Say hello to Heather at the next

Event Spotlight: Concert Industry Consortium – Pollstar, Los Angeles
This week, a group of EMA members will be
heading off to L.A. to volunteer at the
Concert Industry Consortium (CIC), also
known as the Pollstar Conference. The CIC
was founded in 1994 in order to facilitate
communication among key professionals within the music industry. Professionals in
attendance include major booking agencies, concert promotion, facility
management, and record companies. Numerous issues facing the industry are
addressed at the CIC through panel discussions among professionals with
participation from the audience. EMA members attending the event will have the
chance to network with those in the industry and learn valuable information from
those who are successful in the music business. We can’t wait to hear all about the
trip at the next EMA meeting!

the entertainment industry as a figure skating choreographer
and a music coordinator with the St. Louis Bandits Jr. A
Hockey. Jaclyn is looking forward to the SuperBowl trip this
week and really enjoyed the Blues game in St. Louis over
Christmas break. Something interesting about Jaclyn is that
she is a figure skater and a Diamond Girl for Missouri State.
Jaclyn’s words of advice: “If you put your mind to it, you can

Event Spotlight: Super Bowl
The Super Bowl is less than two weeks away!! EMA members
will be volunteering throughout the weekend in Tampa,
Florida. This is a great experience to learn more about the
entertainment industry through involvement with one of the largest sporting events in the
United States. Those attending will also have time to enjoy the warm weather Florida has to
offer. We look forward to hearing all about the trip when they return.
Member Spotlight: Doug Stanze, your EMA President, is an
Entertainment Management major focusing on venues. He
graduates this May and is continuing on to obtain his MBA,
finishing in 2010. Doug would love to become a General
Manager of an arena or stadium during his career. He has
worked for six seasons in rides at Six Flags and interned at
the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Doug is most looking
forward to exciting socials this semester. Something you
might not know about Doug is that he was once shot in the
eye with a BB gun. Doug’s advice: “Always listen in to those
in the field, take notes on their words of wisdom, enjoy the
experience in any part of the industry, you are lucky to have
it. Don’t be afraid to offer ideas, you never know who will
