Women generally have more limited access than men to technology in general, to information, the media and communication facilities;

The total number of IT students enrolled in the tertiary institutions in 2001/02 was 2442, from this about 27% were females

Work on removing the gender barriers to ICT education and training and promoting equal training opportunities in ICT-related fields for women and girls.
Early intervention programmes in science and technology should target young girls with the aim of increasing the number of women in ICT careers. Promote the exchange of best practices on the integration of gender perspectives in ICT education.

Strengthen programmes focused on gender-sensitive curricula in formal and non-formal education for all and enhancing communication and media literacy for women with a view to building the capacity of girls and women to understand and to develop ICT content.
Encourage the development of best practices for e-worker and e-employers built, at the national level, on principles of fairness and gender equality, respecting all relevant international norms.

The Gender Digital Divide in Francophone Africa a harsh reality (IDRC, ENDA)
The gender digital divide is a reality in Francophone Africa, and its extent is considerable: its composite index has a value of 0,64, which means that men have “ten opportunities” to women’s six in the vast and multi-faceted ICT sector.
The gender digital divide, which is real in terms of accessibility, is even more worrying with regard to the ability to use ICTs and content, and is very serious in terms of participation in ICT decision-making.
