In general, I firmly believewe are very educated. I amlearningthingsasasophomorethat my parents were nottaughtuntilcollege.However,I dobelieve there are a fewthingsthatwearenotgettingtaught.Sohereit is,“ThetopfiveissuesthatAmericaisnotfacing.”5. Hurricane pi Ithasnothityet…butitwill.Weall know that hurricanesnames alternate gender andareinalphabeticalorder.Oncetheygetthroughthealphabet,hurricanes start usingGreekletters for their names.Well,eventuallywewill be hit by

Rumors havebeen spreadinthepastmonthsthatsynth-popband,MetroStation,wascallingitquits.Aftertwoofthefourmembers left theband,thingswerelookinghazy. Synthesizer player,B l a k e H e a l y ,d r opped t h eb a n d a n dgo t ma r r i ed .Metro Station’sk e y b o a r d i s t ,AnthonyImprogo,was the next toresign from thegroup. This leftonly leadvoca l i s ta n dgui tar is t ,MasonMusso,alongside leadguitar and backup vocalist,Trace Cyrus, in the band.Although the rumors stil lspread,thisdidnotstopCyrusandMusso fromannouncingthat theywould stay aband,butthisdidnotlastforlong.OnMarch25,MetroStationofficiallyconfirmedtherumorsandsplit. MetroStationonly releasedonealbum,theirfirstandlast.Most recently, an EP, titledKelsey,was released. Kelsey
consisted of the acousticand remixed versions of the“Kelsey”trackandtwobrandnewsongs. Their finalworkwas on the single “Where’sMyAngel”fortheAlmost Alice soundtrack. Met ro S ta t ion a t t rac tslisteners of all arrays, fromthe pop t o h a r d c o r e

we can thank them for allthememories thatwill last:the choruses and beats thatwill stick in our heads, theirenergetic stage presenceandtheirnew-age,electronicsoundthatmayinspirebandsofthefuture.

As common knowledgegoes,moviesareexpensivetomake.Somearemoresothanothers.Whenamovieisreallyexpensive to create, peopleexpect it to be absolutelyamazing. This, sadly, is notalwaysthetruth. But it is sometimes true.A good examplewould be“Spiderman2,”whichhadabudget of $200million. Thatmovie had Oscar-winningspecialeffects,greatadvertisingandwasawell-receivedfilm.But there are othermovies,evenmore expensive than“Spiderman2,”whichprovedto be awful movies . Sothat begs the question: is itthe amount ofmoney thatmatters,orthewayitisused? R i gh t now, t he mos texpensivemovie evermadeis “Pirates of theCaribbean:AtWorld’s End,”which cost
approximately $300million.That might surprise somepeople. The movie i tselfgarnered many “ehs” atthe horribly confusing andwacky plot, but it receivedmany “oohs” and “ahhs” atits special effects. In fact, itwasnominatedfortheOscar.Despite the plot, the serieshad already attracted giantaudiences.Wejustallwantedtoseehowitended,andDisneywantedabigfinale.Itmadeasplash, getting just under $1billioninrevenue.Themoviewas a success, in the end. Ever yone’s favor i temovie, “Avatar,” isthe fourthhighest asfar as budget goes,reporting$237million.But, asmost peopleknow, it is the highestgrossingmovieofalltime,gettingwellover$2.5billioninrevenue.Mostofthemoneyagainwentintoeffects,whichwere groundbreaking and
mind-awing.Themovie itselfwas in development sincethe ’80s, it finally comingintofruitionintheearly2000s. Themassiveamoun t o fmoneyp u tintothe

theeffectsarewhatmade the movie .
Everynowand then, thereare colossal flops of films,
though.Oneofthebiggestandwell-knownwouldhavetobethe 1995 film “Waterworld”starring Kevin Costner. This
moviehad trouble fromthe start, going $75

$175million as faras budget goes. The
movie had amassive adcampaign, alongwithmanystories of howCostner hadalmost died while filming.Despiteallofthis,though,themovieonlymade$88million,turningthemovieintoabomb. And sometimes, all of themoneygivento the filmgoesright to effects, skipping thewriting and acting. Case inpoint:“Transformers:RevengeoftheFallen.”Thebudgetran
up to $200million,making itintotheseven-waytieforthe10thmost expensivemovieever.Butdespite themoney,the movie had numerouserrors, horrible acting, evenworsewriting and an idioticplot. The crit ics al l tookhold of this. But thismoviewas critic-proof, making aswell profit at theboxoffice. Money makes the worldgo ’ round, and i t fundsproductionsofmovies.Moviesneedmoney. Moviesmakemoney.Themoremoney thebetter! Usually. The amountofmoneygiventoafilmisnotwhatmatters, but how theteamusesthemovietomaketheirmovie.JustasPinkFloydsays: “Money, it’sagas.Grabthatcashwithbothhands,andmakeastash.” Oh,Hollywood. Please donotjustpourmoneyintofilmsandexpectgold,itjustdoesnotwork.

my fellowomnivore,accompanied meto the Green OwlCafé to survey thisnovel restaurant. Uponentering, it at once becameapparent that Capellaro hadan affinity for owls, as therewas a wide array of quirkyowl accessories. We weregreeted by the friendly staffand at once felt comfortablein thecozy,homelycafé.Wewerebothquitehungry,soweorderedanappetizerofgrilled
haloumi cheese. This Greekcheese was so fresh it wassqueaky andwas delightfullypairedwithatangychilisauce.Thoughquitedelicious,itwasa bit overpriced at $6. As amain course, Kelsey orderedthe crabby cake appetizer,two patties made from tofuandmushroomsandcoveredwith rémoulade. Because ofher love of traditional crabcakes, Kelsey decided to
take a drive and try
this vegans p e c i a l t y .
Though shecommentedthatthe
texture was a bitdifferent than usual, andthe taste of crab was clearlyabsent, Kelsey did say thatdespite“beingaseafoodloverand a tofu hater...it tastedgreat.”I asked for the Middle-
Eastern platter, a deliciouspairing of toasted whole-
wheat pita triangles, pickledvegetables, pitted blackolives, tabouli (cous coussalad with lemon juice,parsley and tomatoes),hummus, babaganoush(tangy eggplant dip) andmuhammara (a walnut androasted red pepper spread).Though I did not much careforthepickledvegetables,themuhammara was absolutelydelectable and the hummuswas delightfully fresh. Itprovidedahealthy,delicious,and perfectly proportionedentree.Theentirespreadcostamere$9.50.Perhapsthehighlightofthe
meal,however,wasthevegandesserts.Ienjoyedachocolateandmarshmallowmud cakewhich was delightfully richwithafudge-likeconsistency.It was a special treat to eatthe marshmallow fluff astraditionalmarshmallowsarenotvegetarian(theyaremadewithgelatin, frompigs’ skin),andIhadnotenjoyedtheminquitesometime.Kelsey ordered chai
cheesecake, which shedescribedasbeing“themostdelicious cheesecake I’veeverhadinmylife.”On the whole, this quirky
restaurant offers a unique
blendofethnic,indulgentandhealthyfood.Perhapstheoneunifying forceof themenu isthatitisallvegetarian.Do not make the mistake,
however, of writing off thisrestaurant as simply forvegans or vegetarians; as anomnivore Kelsey said, “It’snotsomewhereIwouldhavepicked onmy own, but nowthat I’ve been there, I woulddefinitelygoback.”The friendly staff, quaint
atmosphere and deliciousfood make the Green Owla delightful addition toMadison’srestaurantbase.

Alas,MovieGalleryhas leftus all alone.Always stockedunlessthemovieorgamewasbrandnew.Relativelycheap.Itwasgrand.Butitisnolongerwith us (unless youwant todrivetoBaraboo.)Ihavemanymemorieswiththestore,andIwouldlovetoreminiscewithyou.EversinceIwasayoungkid,I
visitedMovieGallery.Granted,I also visited Video Library,but thatwasbefore I hadanXbox360.MovieGallerywasbetter, anyway.Backwhen itwasHollywoodVideo,whichisthereasonwhyMovieGallerywentoutofbusinessanyway,theywouldhavesetupaSegaGenesis station for all of thekidstoplay.Itwasontherightside of the store, right nextto thewindows. I rememberclockinginnumerousminutesof“SonicAdventure2”onthatthing. Itwas awesome. Andtheneon lights that lined theentiretyof the store’s ceiling!

Thatwouldhave been okay, since Iloved to ridemybike allover the place anyway.But it was raining. Prettybadly, too! Too bad for theprecipitation, though, Iwastoo determined to get thegame. I loadedmy pocketsfull of the crumpled dollarbills and scrounged change.I threwonmywindbreaker,water-resistantcoat,someoldblue jeansand started ridingasfastasIcould.Iemergedinthestore,soppingwet,aboutfifteenminuteslater.TheonlysafetyIhadfromtherainwascuttingthroughthehighschoolbuspickuparea,where the
extendedroof kept me d r yforallofthirtyseconds.Igotthegame,after callinghometogetparentpermissionsinceitwasaMaturegame.Idrove

B e f o r e t h e r e w a s“Sleepless in Seattle” or“You’ve GotMail,” therewasthemoviethatstartedit all: “When Harry MetSally.” What ties thesefilms all together? Thegoldenwomanofromanticcomedies in the la te20th century: Meg Ryan. Releasedin1989,“WhenHarryMet Sally” becameaninstanthitwithromanticcomedy fans.Ryan shinesasSallyAlbright,anuptightcollegegraduatewhoendsup traveling across thecountrywithHarryBurns,ahilariously frankcharacter,played by Billy Crystal. The pair meets at thebeginning of the film ona cross-country trip fromtheUniversity of ChicagotoNew York City to starttheir separate lives. Ontheir trip tension arisesb e t w e e n t h e p a i r . WhentheyarriveinNewYork,theygotheirseparateways. Over the next fewyears, theycontinually runinto each other. The firstfew times theymeet, they
donot get alongwhatsoever,but as t ime passes theirre la t ionship progresses . The first time Harry andSallymeet, theydonotmeshwell, and it is the same thesecond time around.Whentheymeet forasecond time,

both in bloomingrelationshipswith separatepeople,anditlooksasthoughtheywillneverenduptogether. Butfiveyearslaterwhentheymeetagain,HarryhasrecentlygottenadivorceandSallyhasbrokenupwithherlong-termboyfriend.Beingthattheybothhaverecentlyendedsignificantrelationships, they decide itwould be better if they justbecomefriends. moredeals,andbringfriends.Soon enough, the Saturdaythreedaysbefore it closed, Iwent againwith seniorsMaxThompson, Tyler Kerkhof,JonSchadabergandDouglasCole.We all bought at leastthreethings,TylerandIbuyingsix.Wealsoraidedthepostercollection; I got a poster for“District 9,” “Zombieland”and twoothers.But thatwasnot the endof it.Max,Dougand Ihaddecided to runoutto DeForest’sMovieGallerytoseewhattheyhad,butwehadtobebackforMr.Warrior.Sowedriveoutquickly and,loandbehold,theirstorewasdoublethesizeofours,butwehadonly10minutes to scan!I bought season threeof “30Rock”for$12.Wehaddecidedtocomebackthenextday,but,sadly, DeForest closed theirstoredowntwodaysearly.AndtheWaunakeeonehadbeenpickedthrough;onlyjunkwasleft.Thatwastheend.Sadly,IbidfarewelltoMovie
