Sri Ramachandra Grameena Vidya Vikasa
Kendra Trust (SRGVVKT)
This is a charitable school for kids of all castes
and classes which are socially & economically
disadvantaged. Their parents are poor
agricultural workers, maids, construction labour,
stone cutters, drivers and garment industry
workers, etc.
The school, started in 1991, serves more than
th
130 children from classes Nursery to 7 . The
teachers' salaries and the children's school
uniforms, books, school bags, writing material,
mid-day meals, etc. are all managed through
donations; but it is a hand to mouth existence
for the Trust.
For about 25 infants and small children of the
poor parents, the school also provides day care
in a temporary
borrowed shed in
a neighboring
plot. The school
feeds these small
children with milk,
biscuits and once a
day meals.
Amazingly, despite
these children
coming from a background of grinding poverty
and many times, broken homes, alcoholism,
violence against women, etc, the school
manages to foster good learning and develop
happy balanced individuals,. The cheer on the
faces of the children and their zest for life and
even for academics, is a joy to be seen. Good
citizen qualities and patriotism are some of the
other values that the school consciously fosters
in these children, who may have
otherwise loiter aimlessly without
guidance.Despite the challenges of not
having adequate resources,
the Trust did not hesitate to
open a day care center for
the infants and tiny tots, who
otherwise would have been left
to the mercies of the footpath,
when their mothers go to work.
Our credentials
In its nearly two and half
decades of existence, the
school portals have seen
many kind hearted visitors
and media teams who felt it
worthy of reporting. Times of
India, Indian Express and
Kannada daily Prajavani have
reported on the school. The
school is a registered Trust and
is duly recognized by
Government of Karnataka
Education Department and the Income Tax
Department for 80G exemption to donors.
Details of the school
The mainTrustees are Mr. M. C. Venugopal, Mrs.
Rohini and Ms. Revathy, The former is a retired
official of the Government of India and the lady
Trustees are qualified educationists serving these
children for nearly 25 years. They started this
school when the area was wilderness and despite
not knowing how they would manage the costs!
Undeterred, they went
canvassing for
admissions from village
to village and
convinced the parents,
who themselves, were
uneducated.
The Trustees also
organize medical
camps so that the
children can get health
guidance and help.
Some large-heated organizations have visited the
school and encouraged the children through
donations, play equipment, etc.
The school follows Karnataka State Syllabus but is
open to providing additional educational inputs to
the children. The school therefore encourages
volunteering and has had the benefit of even IT
professionals teaching English, Maths etc. to the
children, sometimes through Skype internet
connection. Recently, the Bosch Company has
kindly provided some laptops so that the children
can get exposure. The school desires, in future, to
also set up full-fledged science lab for giving
practical education and usage of multi-media,
such as projectors.
