Question 4 – How Did You Use New Media Technologies In The
Construction And Research, Planning And Evaluation Stages?
By Adam Wareing
Shoot first attempt
We used the burst function on the Canon 700D at various fps along with varying levels artificial light to capture sweets falling in front of a grey screen. The results proved to be average due to the poor lighting and then, after creating the above contact sheets, we chose to re-think the idea for our focal image.
Shoot second attempt
We used the same camera without the burst shot function and instead chose to photograph an arm with direct exposure of artificial lighting (without filter). These results were more impressive when adjusting the light exposure settings and improving focus on the syringe itself. To get our final image (left) we experimented with different light exposure and angles as seen on these slides.
Editing The Image
After choosing the image to use, we manipulated it’s angle to make the syringe larger and assimilated a section of the grey background using the stamp tool.
Ctrl + T allowed us to resize the image to fit the frame, although corners were not filling
We used the clone stamp tool by selecting which colour you wish to use then left clicking to paint that colour over the white area to assimilate it.
Editing The Image
Using the clone stamp tool again we had to keep re selectin the colour we wished to clone due to the change in light gradient caused by the artificial light.
Editing The Image
With the arm hairs on this corner, we used the content aware tool to select a section of the arm and drag it over the black space. This then digitally synthesised the image to seem as the continuation of the shot.
Editing The Image
The camera RAW filter allowed us to adjust the image temperature. We turned this to blue creating a cold, dirty feel while turning up contrast to create more dramatic shadows.
Editing The Image
The radial filter allowed amendments to be made inside a selection. This ensured we could brighten the contents of the syringe and draw more focus to it.
Editing The ImageInside the camera RAW filter we could the mid tones and therefore ‘clarity’ in the image. This added more dramatic affect to the image, giving it the connotations of addiction.
Editing the image
The slogan and title were added by using the rectangular box tool to create a conventional block background to the text. The text tool was then used to type the slogan, title and website. To remain conventional, the font used was Trebuchet, which looked the closest to channel 4’s own font as that was unavailable.
Editing The Image
We used the blending option called ‘divide’ to remove the white background of the downloaded channel 4 logo.
