Question 5
How did you attract/address your audience?
Front Cover
The Unique Selling Point of my magazine (the model) looks about the age 18+ which draws audiences in the same age range in reading this magazine.
The use of direct mode of address attracts its audience by getting there attention in reading about the model’s article in this issue.
The use of secondary cover-
lines, Button/Flash and Plus all relates to
music which automatically informs the
audiences that this is a music magazine.
They’d also be able to identify the genre
of this magazine according to the names of
the famous R&B artists involved.
The masthead stands out very well compared to the
other texts as its font size is bigger than the
cover lines even though its colour is the
same to the other texts.
- The masthead is placed over the models head to allow the audience read
the text clearly.
I have used bold and bright colours for its
font with a shadow to help it stand out from
the model’s costume. If I had left it without
any shadow, the texts wont be readable for
the audience.
No shadow with shadow
Contents
I have kept the same font colour of the ‘Contents’ title from the masthead found on the front cover together with the official website and the issue date.
The structure of this page is simple and is clear to read but is still appealing to its readers.
I have got this idea from Billboard magazine’s contents page. The use of this technique will help this magazine gain loyal customers which keeps them updated with the newest music monthly.
The website added on the bottom will also allow active members to visit the official website to keep them updated for latest news and gossips.
It is easy to find the specific
articles the readers would be
looking for as they are all
separated into three different
sections.
Most of the Editor’s note/
letter in any magazine’s
contents page are all very
exciting to read which talks
about the magazine. In my
Editor’s Note, I have ensured
that my use of language
persuades the readers in
reading the articles by talking
about the exclusive features
included in the issue.
Adding more secondary images of other people
increases the interests of the readers together
with a short appealing texts.
Double Page Spread
I have copied the structure from this double page spread of
Lady gaga but have swapped the main image on the
opposite side. I like the idea of using a capital letter of the
model’s first name as its background where the article is
written because it makes the page look more appealing
rather than leaving it white which would bore the readers.
The reason I have suggested this font style to my focus group is because it shows how girly Timea is which also relates to the title – This and That...what do you think? = sounds choosy, just like a typical girl. The font style is very different compared to the other fonts in this page which really stands out and grab its audiences attention.
The idea of making it sound like a rhetorical question, is that it involves the reader into the topic.
Interesting quotes from
the interviewee like
these are in bigger font
sizes and bolder texts
to attract readers in
reading the article.
The reason I have split
the article into three
columns is that it helps
the readers read faster
and easier.
I have changed the model’s costume and the location to show other mise en scene. The props and the costumes used in this picture is completely different to what she was wearing on the front cover. This is to show her different personality and might inspire others to become like her.
I have kept the article appealing to the readers by continuously adding more rhetorical questions and funny quotes from the interviewee into the article.
