Duties Take pictures of models to be used for web sites, magazines, catalogs, print ads and fashion

houses

Conceptualize photo shoots that will highlight the clothing, accessories, and apparel worn by the models

Create a good rapport and working relationship with the models to produce excellent pictures

Coordinate and work well with fashion stylists, art directors, agents and fashion editors

Work well with natural and studio lighting to bring out the best features of the models

Produce photo concepts that are unique, creative, and artistic

Create a relaxing yet professional atmosphere so the models feel comfortable

Achieve excellent poses by boosting the confidence of the models

Use various props and back drafts to create an appropriate photo setting

Do photo shoots in a wide variety of locations, both indoor and outdoor

Produce excellent fashion pictures that bring out the best of the models

Education Does not require an

educational degree

Necessary skills can be gained through internship or apprenticeship with an establish photographer

Attending photography classes is suggested

Earning a degree in photography is always helpful to a successful career

Abilities Able to translate own artistic vision

into photographs

Must have a strong portfolio that emphasizes both a unique, artistic perspective and technical photographic skills

Knowledge of technical elements of photography including lighting, sharpness, composition, and an awareness of fashion and photographic trends

Knowledge in photo editing applications

Able to capture and maintain a certain mood for the photo shoot
