Gallery News
Bob Haas and family will be February's featured artists. Meet the Artists/
Gallery Talk is Wednesday, February 7th at 10 a.m. in the Dorothy Kline and
Robert Graham Art Gallery.
Bob Haas, retired from GM/Packard, currently works for Trumbull County
Office of Elderly Affairs, Nutrition Program. So we see him daily in the Pine
Room overseeing nutrition site duties. While in the armed services Bob
discovered art during an extended hospital stay as he healed. "I had to save my
sanity" and so began Bob's doodles later moving into collage work. Other
interests include music, singing and interacting with people every day. Everyone
has a story. Bob loves people.
Debby Haas has always been interested in photography. Other interests for
her include making gift baskets and floral arrangements. Debby currently
teaches on‐line as a Title 1 tutor, which she finds very rewarding. Debby also is
working on her piano skills to accompany Bob on Guitar ‐ maybe we'll get a song
while viewing their family's artwork.

“Coming home”: from Mozart to Mama Mia!”
A concert is being given by SCOPE’s Musical Director Jason Fair and friends at the First United Methodist Church in Warren on Sunday, February 18th at 3 p.m. !!
Jason has been a part of the SCOPE family since March of 2017, learning the ropes from his supervisor, Skip Jordan. Even though he acts as director of music, Jason does whatever needs done, and helps whoever needs help at Warren SCOPE. You may have seen him driving ‘The Travelling Food Pantry,’ cleaning floors at the Lordstown and Niles locations, or sitting in with the Niles choir! He lives in Warren and recently acquired an apartment just blocks from the Warren center. Jason also serves as pianist, soloist, and praise team director at First Church Warren, located at 309 N Park Ave, where the concert is being held.
The program will include sacred and secular selections composed by Leonard Bernstein, Lorenz Hart, Felix Mendelssohn, Paul Simon, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Rachel Platten, Colton Dixon and more! Traditional standards and inspirational favorites will be shared and sing‐a‐longs encouraged ;) One of Jason’s musical friends is our dear SCOPE member, Velma Bowman who just turned 98 in January. Velma is no stranger to our centers and if you’ve been in the Warren site this past year, you’ve probably heard Jason and Velma singing and playing their hearts out! Jason says, “Velma is an amazing artist and human being. Her upbeat spirit as she tickles the ivories is infectious. Although she applauds my talent, she doesn’t realize the joy she brings to my life with her music. Thank you, Velma!” Other featured artists include Jamie Marich, Raymond Morgan, Jaered Andrews, Rebecca Bickel, Christian Mikusevich, James Piccirilli, and Margie Rapp!!
Suggested donation of $5 per adult at the door, and a love offering will be taken at intermission. There will be light refreshments following the performance. So come on out and bring your friends and family! Jason shares, “The theme of this concert is ‘coming home.’ And that’s not just the physical space, which is vital, but primarily the spiritual home in our hearts. You can’t have a home‐coming without a home‐leaving, so I’ll perform a variety of songs and share some life stories that illustrate those joys and challenges. God has blessed me in countless ways and I know one way I can give back is to share my passion of music. First Church and SCOPE provide me places to do that. Hope to see you all soon!!”

Our very own RSVP volunteer Cherry Monegan was inducted into the Portage Senior Citizen Hall of Fame. An awards ceremony and luncheon was held at Glenmoor Country Club in Akron on Thursday, December 14th. Cherry is a devoted volunteer and friend to all here at the Portage County Senior Center. She is always eager to help and really goes that extra mile.
The Lordstown SCOPE offers a homey, cozy atmosphere with
the best friends you will find anywhere. Just like
home, only better. Lunches, knitting, wood carving, puzzles and more will
make you wonder where the day went. Stop in and see us.
