We firstly filmed this interview with Norma in her own cake decorating shop, and from this we were able to receive a higher quality mise-en-scene and the answers that where given where great. However, Norma’s glasses had a reflection in the lenses which comprised the quality of the overall shot.

On our requested second attempt we asked if the glasses could be taken away, to which Norma agreed as they weren't a necessity, this enabled us to gain a better shot.

This interview was successful the second time as the answers given where relevant and good, the framing was correct and the mise-en-scene was great.

We filmed Marge Magee at her home, as we wanted her in a natural home environment as she couldn’t be around cakes talking about why Marge couldn't eat cakes as this would contradict her topic.

The only issue that had risen was that the lighting was slightly too dark, but it was commented that it gave it a ‘homely’ feel which would benefit the interview as long as there was relevant cutaways to aid the interviews topic.

The answers that where given are good and the framing was correct and the interview was usable.

We filmed inside the bakery and interviewed the owner Ian. We firstly filmed him upstairs where the office was located, as it was busy in the shop, and the answers he gave where great. However, once we watched the interview back we realised that the mise-en-scene was poor and didn't reflect the documentary.

We then returned to Dodgshon’s to interview Ian, but during this second time we requested to film downstairs next to the cakes.

This interview was successful the second time as the answers given where relevant and good, the framing was correct and the mise-en-scene looked good.

the interview in the workplace, which helped to benefit the mise-en-scene. The answers that where received where not always clear in terms of knowing the topic of discussion, but ones that where are usable.

When we finished filming it was noticed that the framing of the interview had a slight tilt. We discovered that this was salvageable and could be corrected later on.

This interview was successful the second time as the usable answers that where given where relevant and good, the framing can be corrected during the editing process and the mise-en-scene looked good.

Page 20: Filming interviews

This interview was successful the first time as the answers given where relevant and good, the framing was correct and the mise-en-scene looked relevant to the topic.

Page 23: Filming interviews

this we requested to film her inside of her kitchen, where all her baking equipment was on show.

The first time we filmed Vanessa the given answers and the lighting where great. However, the framing wasn’t at am acceptable standard as the camera was on a higher angle than the level at which she was sitting.

The second time filming we interviewed Vanessa in the same location as we had previously. We improved the framing of the shot by having her standing to ensure the camera was at eye-level.

This interview was successful the second time as the answers given where relevant and good, the framing was now correct and the mise-en-scene looked good and relevant to Vanessa and what she was talking about.

Page 26: Filming interviews

Questions asked:1. What's your favourite cake?2. What's your most memorable cake?3. How often do you eat cake?

At first we tried to film Vox Pops outside a café in New Brighton, however due to poor weather conditions we had to stop filming.

Secondly, we chose to film our Vox Pops along a street that had various coffee shops that sold cake. The filming took place out side a café, of which we received permission to do so, in order to have relevant mise-en-scene. We framed our interviewees in a mid-shot and we tried to position them on either the left or right hand side. Due to the street location we had little control over traffic noise and the movement of interviewees.
