The Video Challenge

QuickTime™ and aTIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor

are needed to see this picture.

» Each clip must be no longer than 20 seconds.

» Each team member must film at least two clips.

» Clips can be one 20 second shot or can have more than one shot, but still totaling 20 seconds.

» Each scene must fulfill the Actions and Film Technique components.

» Limit the use of the zoom - the video can easily become too jumpy. Alternative - To shoot a close-up, get close-up.

» You can complete the video challenges in any order you choose.

Video Challenge #1» Action:

Film a team member shooting the perfect foul shot or slam dunking a basketball.

» Film Technique: High Angle Shot

» Film the scene from above the basketball hoop.

» Be careful! (Use the ladder provided)

Video Challenge #2» Action:

In the drama room perform a conversational scene from your favourite classic movie or classical play.

» Film Technique: Point of View Shot

» Film the conversation from over the shoulder of the listener. (Remember the 180 Rule!)

Video Challenge #3» Action:

Film your team members dancing a classic waltz. Don’t worry about the music, we’ll dub it in later.

» Film Technique: Circular Walk Around

Shot» Film the couple

dancing by circling the couple with the camera rolling.

Film the main entrance of the school a through your partner’s legs.

» Film Techniques: Ground Level Shot

» The camera angle must be from ground level.

Framed Shot» The legs must form

a triangular frame for the shot

Film your team members enjoying a snack at the break.

» Film the food travelling from the hand to the mouth.

Film your team members in a heated argument.

» Film Technique: Walk Out of Frame

Shot» The scene should

end with one of the combatants walking out of the scene.

Film the same team member that walked out of scene 6 opening a locker door.

» Film Technique: Insider shot

» Film the scene from inside the locker looking out.

Film a panoramic view from the highest point to which you have access.

» Film Technique: High angle Panoramic

Editing with Sony Vegas» Open Sony Vegas and

start a new project.» Create folders:

movie_project>images movies>music

» Save the project in h://work_ip/movies

» Attach the firewire cable to the camera and the computer.

» Turn the camera on and capture video from Sony Vegas.

» Use the controls on the camera to rewind the film.

» Use the editing tools to crop film, add Titles, Effects, Transitions, and audio.

» Save every five minutes

» Once you have exported your film to Quicktime in CD format, copy your file to the Recordable CD supplied.

» Congratulations!! Take your CD with you to share with your friends.
