Page 1: Fingering Melodic Minor Scales

Melodic Minor Scales

The picture chart below show all the 12 melodic scales in minor, easy to understand and play with the correct fingering. If you play

the same pattern again and again, you can play as many octaves as you like, up and down.

The finger numbers that are within a parenthesis (5), are alternative fingering and used when you begin, end or turn the scale.

For example; if the left hand starts on a finger (5), but as you play the scale ascending several octaves you will use finger 1 on that

note. When you finish the scale you will use finger (5) again. It is also used when you can use an alternative finger.

Minor Piano Scale Chart with Fingering

There are 12 different minor scales that are melodic. 2 of those have two names, so you could brag and say that you have learned

14! Those that have two names look exactly the same on the keyboard, but differently with notes.

Melodic minor scales are a little bit "special"since they are played differently ascending and descending. In F# and C# minor the

fingering need to change slightly when descending, so watch out!

You can scroll down for all the scales, or use these quick links to get to the scale you need:
