First Meeting of the RISE Programme
Call for Papers (Deadline 1st May 2015)
Thursday 18th June -‐ Friday 19th June 2015
Researchers are cordially invited to (i) submit a paper to present or (ii) express interest in attending the first meeting of the Research into Improving Systems of Education (RISE) Programme. This meeting will take place on Thursday 18th June and Friday 19th June 2015 and will be held at the Center for Global Development, Washington DC.
RISE is a new large scale, multi-‐country research programme developed to answer the question: “How can education systems be reformed to deliver better learning for all?” The objective of this first event is to bring together high profile academics, researchers and policy makers to discuss the key issues that will shape the RISE agenda over the next seven years. The conference will feature a mix of invited and contributed talks. Confirmed speakers so far include Felipe Barrera-‐Osorio, Jishnu Das, Michael Kremer, Karthik Muralidharan, Derek Neal, Lant Pritchett (RISE Research Director), and Leonard Wantchekon.
Submissions are invited in any area of research relating to education systems, although papers in the following areas are particularly welcome:
• Teachers (e.g. remuneration, recruitment and deployment); • Schools (including issues of autonomy, decentralization, public funding, and public-‐private
partnerships); • Student assessment; and • Politics of reform.
Papers and/or expressions of interest to attend should be submitted by noon (US EDT) on 1st May 2015. Abstracts will also be accepted, although preference will be given to full papers. Expressions of interest should include name, title, and institutional affiliation. A committee from the RISE directorates will review the submissions. Applicants will be notified no later than 15th May 2015.
RISE can cover travel costs for all speakers, and local expenses (hotel accommodation for 2 nights in Washington DC, and conference lunches and dinner) for all academic participants.
