EVGC Club Rules 1 SAFETY
1.1 Suspension of play due to lightening, fog or other dangerous conditions If play is suspended due to dangerous conditions or the course becoming unfit for play, the
klaxon will be sounded and all players must mark the position of their ball and take shelter or
leave the course. There will be one long blast of the klaxon which should be audible across the
whole course. Play may be continued after two blasts of the klaxon if and when conditions permit.
Players may at any time cease their own play and take shelter or leave the course if they
consider their own safety is at risk.
In the case of play during a competition, please refer to the club Procedure for Suspension
of play located in the Professional Shop (M&H Folder).
The Signal for the suspension of play will be:
ONE PROLONGED BLAST OF THE KLAXON
The signal for the resumption of play will be:
TWO SHORT BLASTS OF THE KLAXON REPEATED
1.2 Poor Light or Fog
Play should not proceed unless the red and white post is visible from the tee AND the players
deem it safe to tee off.
1.3 General Health, Safety and Welfare.
Please take due care on the course and in the club house at all times to avoid injury or accidents.
Accidents or near misses should be reported to the Professional or Catering staff at the earliest
opportunity. Including balls out of bounds over any hedge or fence.
2 ETIQUETTE
2.1 No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when the
player is addressing the ball or making a stroke.
2.2 When the result of a hole has been determined, players should leave the putting green
immediately, do not linger on the green marking cards or discussing the scores.
2.3 If a match fails to keep its place on the course and loses a clear hole on the players in front it
must allow the match following to pass.
2.4 Players, while searching for a ball, should allow other matches coming up to pass them. They
should signal to the players following them to pass and, having given the signal, should not
continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range.
2.5 EVGC encourages “ready golf”, see the section below
2.6 Players ‘cutting in’ should ensure that, in doing so, no inconvenience is caused to other
matches. (The previous hole should be clear.)
2.7 No player should play until the party in front is out of range. When matches are in close
proximity on ‘Church Walk’ or ‘O’er the Trees’ holes, play from the tee should not proceed until
the all-clear bell has been rung by the preceding players. Please ring the bell loudly and clearly.
2.8 Clubs, clothing and equipment found on the course should be handed in to the Professional’s
shop.
2.9 In the interest of all, players should play without delay.
2.10 Mobile phones must not be used on the course except in emergencies.
3 READY GOLF
3.1 “Ready Golf” is being encouraged, players have to act sensibly to ensure that playing out of
turn does not endanger other players. Ready Golf is not applicable to Match Play.
3.2 The term “ready golf” has been adopted by many as a catch-all phrase for a number of actions
that separately and collectively can improve pace of play. There is no official definition of the
term, but examples of “ready golf” in action are:
• Hitting a shot when safe to do so if a player farther away faces a challenging shot and is
taking time to assess their options
• Shorter hitters playing first from the tee or fairway if longer hitters have to wait
• Hitting a tee shot if the person with the honour is delayed in being ready to play
• Hitting a shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball
• Putting out even if it means standing close to someone else’s line
• Hitting a shot if a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still farthest from
the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker
• When a player’s ball has gone over the back of a green, any player closer to the hole but
chipping from the front of the green should play while the other player is having to walk to
their ball and assess their shot
• Marking scores upon arrival at the next tee - not on the previous green, if playing first mark
the card after your tee shot has been played.
• A player short of the hole putting first if another player has to walk to the back of the green
• Putting with the flag in is allowed, there is no penalty for hitting the flag stick
4 CARE OF THE COURSE
4.1 Trolleys and buggies must not be taken between green side bunkers and the green, please go
outside any green side bunker.
4.2 Under no circumstances should trolleys or buggies be taken onto the tee or green.
4.3 Single and two seater buggies should be driven in the semi rough or rough and kept well clear
of the surround to the greens, away from bunkers and tee’s.
4.4 ALL players should follow “traffic management” when it is place on the course
4.5 Players should ensure that when placing the flag stick on the green no damage is done to the
putting surface and that neither they nor their caddies damage the hole by standing too close
when taking out or replacing the flag stick.
4.6 The flag stick should be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting
green.
4.7 Bags must not be placed on the putting green.
4.8 Having played out of a bunker, players should carefully smooth out all footprints and holes
therein using the rake provided. All rakes should be left inside the bunker.
4.9 Any turf cut or displaced must be replaced at once and pressed down (this does not include turf
cut on the tees). Players must repair their own pitch marks on the putting surface and
encourage others to do the same.
4.10 Bags and trolleys should be left in a position so as to enable a speedy exit from the green.
