Materials • Worsted weight yarn*: 4 oz cherry red,
2 oz green, 1 oz white • Size 7 (4.5mm) double-pointed needles
(set of 5) or size needed to obtain gauge
• Stitch markers • Stitch holders • Tapestry needle *Sample project was com-pleted with Super Saver yarn (100 percent acrylic) from Coats & Clark.
Gauge 20 sts and 24 rnds = 4 inches/ 10cm in color patt To save time, take time to check gauge. Pattern Note Stocking leg is worked with 4 double-pointed ndls, foot and toe are worked with 5 ndls. Cuff With green, CO 72 sts (24 on each of 3 dpn) and join without twisting, pM at beg of rnd.

Row 3: Knit. Rows 4–34: Rep Rows
2 and 3, ending with Row 2 (17 garter st ridges). Turn heel
Row 35: K23, ssk, turn leaving rem 11 sts unworked.
Row 36: Sl 1 purlwise, p10, p2tog, turn leaving rem sts unworked.
Row 37: Sl 1 knitwise, k10, ssk, turn leaving rem sts unworked.
Rep Rows 36 and 37 until 12 sts rem on ndl. Cut green, sl sts to holder. Foot With red, pick up and k 17 sts along edge of heel flap (1 st eor), pick up strand bet heel and instep, place on ndl and k1b; with 2nd ndl, k 18 sts from instep holder; with 3rd ndl, k rem 18 instep sts; with 4th ndl, k1b in strand bet heel and instep, pick up and k 17 sts along other edge of heel flap, k6 from heel holder. Sl rem 6 heel sts onto first ndl. You will have 2 ndls containing 18 sts and 2 ndls containing 24 sts (84 sts), and work with 5th ndl.
Rnd 1: K21, ssk, k1; knit across 2nd and 3rd ndls; on 4th ndl, k1, k2tog, k21.
Rnds 2 and 3: Knit. Rnd 4: K to last 3 sts on first ndl, ssk,
k1; knit across 2nd and 3rd ndls; on 4th ndl, k1, k2tog, k to end.
[Rnd Rnds 2–4] 4 more times. (18 sts rem on each ndl)
Work even until foot meas 41⁄2 inches from end of heel. Cut red, attach green.
Toe Dec rnd: *K to last 3 sts on ndl, k2tog,
k1; k1, ssk, k across ndl; rep from * across ndls 3 and 4.
Knit 3 rnds, then rep dec rnd. [Knit 2 rnds, rep dec rnd] twice. [Knit 1 rnd, rep dec rnd] 3 times. Work dec rnd every rnd until 8 sts rem.
Cut green, leaving an 18-inch end. Thread yarn in tapestry ndl, run through rem sts, pull tight and fasten off.
Finishing Turn cuff to inside along turning ridge and sew in place. I-Cord Loop With green and 2 dpn, CO 3 sts, k3. Do not turn, *sl sts to other end of ndl, pull yarn across back, k3, rep from * until cord meas 4 inches. K3tog, fasten off. Fold cord in half and sew to inside back of cuff. ❖
