The National Transportation Library (NTL) maintains and facilitate access to statistical and other information needed for transportation decision making at the federal, state, and local levels. It also coordinates with public and private transportation libraries and information providers to improve information within the transportation community.

The library is composed of: a technical collection, a legal collection and a digital repository. The technical collection contains extensive holdings on the history of transportation, federal and state reports, technical transportation journals and current and historical statistical resources. The legal collection has federal and state statutes, administrative regulations, treatises, periodicals, government documents, digests, legislative histories and special collections. The digital repository, NTL’s fastest-growing collection, serves as a permanent archive for full text statistical, technical, research and policy documents. Documents are provided to the NTL by federal, state, local, tribal and other government agencies as well as University Transportation Centers.

The National Transportation Library provides access to over 200,000 print titles, 500 print periodicals subscriptions and 100 online databases.

The Great Escapes tour of the National Transportation Library will include a tour of the library collections as well as a description of the services offered by the library to DOT staff and the public.
