Fromoneofourlong-termfostermomsStephanieR:Scrappypants(néeScrappyorScrapstertohisKSCfriends)wasmylong-termKSCfoster,dearfriend,androommateofnearly10years.(HealsorespondedScraporPants,andwhenfeelingfancy-astuxedocatsarewonttodo-hewasSeñorPantalones.)Hesawmethroughlawschoolandmorerecently,keptmeontaskworkingfromhomebysleepingonmyfoot.Hewashandsomeandfeisty'tiltheend-achaseroflasers,sharerofGreekyogurt,anddrinkerofwaterfrommypaintbrushcups(nontoxicpaint).WhenScrappypantscameintomylife,Ihadjustinvestedinmyownplace,anditwastooquietsoIappliedtofosterforKSC.Welldidtheyhavethefostercatforme!IrememberhiswidegreeneyestakingeverythinginfromhiscarrierwhenHelenfromKSCbroughthimoverintheFallof2010,andhowwhenwelethimout,heranaround,tailhigh,enthusiasticallyexploringeverycornerofmyplacewhileIassuredhim“youarehome.”Hetestedmewithbehavioralissuesatfirst,butwegotthroughitwithKSC'sguidanceandsupport.Ididn’tknowIcouldloveacatsomuchthatIwouldputupwithsuchantics,butpatiencepaidoff,andIfelthonoredwhenIgainedhistrust.KSCcamethroughagainwhenScrappypantswasdiagnosedwithdiabetesandenduredtwohospitalstays(Ivisitedeverydaytowashhisface,ashewouldemphaticallyresistthevettechs‘attempts).Wehadnearly6moreyearstogether.Hemellowedoutwithourhumanfriendsbutremainedferociouswithlasers.Heevencaughtafewmiceinhisdayandproudlydisplayedtheminfrontofmybathroomdoorformetofindinthemorning.(What’sthis?!Amouse?!JustwhatIalwayswanted!ThankyouScrap!(barf))InDecember2019,hestartedslowingdownandwasdiagnosedwithadditionalailments,buthehadawilltolive!Hesurprisedmebyhangingonanother6months,duringwhichheenjoyedtreats,rotisseriechicken,headrubs,andunconditionallove.Hishealthsharplydeclinedattheend,lettingmeknowhewasreadytogo.Iburiedhisremainsatthebaseofatreethatheenjoyedwatchingfromourlivingroomwindow.Scrappypantswillhaveaplaceinmyheartforever,andIamsothankfultoKSCforbringinghimintomylife.Imisshimsomuch.RIPScrappypants.4/9/04-7/20/20
