My name is Dale Collier, II and I am a rising junior at Clemson University

majoring in architecture. I have learned a lot in my rst two years in

architecture school, and I hope to learn a lot more as I continue to proceed

through my education. I work very hard to do projects to the best of my abilities, so that I can always make sure that I am able to put my best foot forward and so

my work will be very presentable.

Can Opener BoardI completed this project during my rst year at Clemson in my freshman studio. For this project, we had to complete a drawing of a mechanical object depicting the dierent types of movement of the object. My object was a can opener. For this project, I designed a board in Illustrator

depicting the dierent types of movement of this can opener.

Door Window Stair Project

For this project, we rst had to create three dierent moments or three dierent emotions. We had to develop study models for these three

moments of time and develop these as best as we could. After we developed these three moments, we combined these dierent feelings to

create a narrative. Then we built one nal model combining all of the three moments into one. My three moments were depression, focus, and openness, and my narrative focused on a basketball team that was trying to score a last second shot to win the game. Depression focused on the

feeling that the team gets when they notice that they are losing. Focus is the second moment where the team digs down deep for this play so that

they are able to win the game. Finally, the third feeling is a sense of openness where the team is relieved that they won the game and they

realize that all of their hard work payed o. These three dierent emotions and this narrative described my door window project.

As you can see, the bottom of the model is very tight and slanted to represent the confusion and the depression of the athletes. The

model is leaning because the athletes feel like the world is going to fall on top of them. There is a rope in the middle of the model to

represent focus. This is a tectonic element. The athletes climb this rope to the top of the “mountain” in order to get to where they need.

At the top of the model is a very open arch to signify the athletes reaching their goal and being on top of the world.

Portfolio VesselFor our nal project during my rst semester of sophomore year,

we had to create a portfolio vessel to store our portfolios. We also had to have a narrative that went along with our vessel. My

narrative was of a young man having a dream that he was climbing a mountain with Sir Edmund Hillary, who was a famous

mountaineer who ended up being one of the rst people to climb Mount Everest. At the beginning of the journey, everything is going smooth. Then during the journey they encounter some

trouble along the way. However they end up overcoming all of their obstacles so that they could nish their journey and make it to the top. I made my vessel very similar to my narrative so that

they can go together hand in hand.

Columbia Green Spine Project

The Columbia AIA sponsored a competition for our sophomore studio. They needed a way to connect the residential area to the commercial

area of the Vista. The site lasted from Finlay Park to the vista. Our studio was split into four dierent groups: the bridge group, tunnel group, bike shop group, and the waynding group. The bridge group is designed to get bikers and walkers from Finlay Park across Taylor Street. The tunnel group is designed to renovate an existing tunnel that is located on the trail. The bike group was in charge of designing a bike shop along the

path so that bikers would be able to leave their bikes there or have somewhere to x their bikes. The last group was the waynding group, which was in charge of combining these three elements together. They were in charge of lighting, signage, and the branding of everything so

that this could all ow very cohesively and give people a sense of place.
