CAGR of nearly 40 % between 2012 and 2017
• The continued demand for mobile broadband services will play
a critical role in maintaining the Carrier WiFi and small cell
market's growth, amid a growing demand of convergent,
intelligent and vendor agnostic small cell platforms by Carriers.
• Fixed line carriers are capitalizing on their infrastructure
investments to offer Small Cells as a Service (SCaaS). Mind
Commerce expects Fixed line carriers to form an integral part of
the industry's value chain representing as much as 20% of the
revenue share. Source: Mind Commerce Publishing

SOLUTION : WIFI-LTE INTEGRATION ON SMALL
CELL
Integration of Wi-Fi n/w to LTE n/w based on LIPA method. Wi-Fi as associated data network.
Where data plane could be distributed over two different LIPA n/w. Though the control and mobility is maintained wrt LTE n/w only.
UE would be using Wi-Fi and LTE radio simultaneously.
UE capability for multiple PDP context. For Normal PDP as well as for LIPA PDP context.
Traffic based offloading and homogeneous policy management.

WHAT ? THE SOLUTION ADDRESSES
• Number of user coverage, LTE small cell back-
off, data traffic calculation.
• WiFi Hotspot 2.0/Passpoint with SIM based
authentication to improve user experience
How to handle the amount of traffic to be
offloaded by WiFi network?.
• WiFi network traffic management and seamless
integration with 4G network.
• Network coordination and interference
management with macro networks.
• Network discovery and Selection of backhaul
network and other processes in network
management.
• Security , authentication, billing, policy and how
to reduce the handoff latency between LTE and
WiFi.
• Need for end user satisfaction, reduce
infrastructure investments and operating
expenses.
• To Evaluate the cost and benefit of using WiFi,
Femto cells, pico cells to reduce network
congestion and improve network coverage per
cell.
• Wi-Fi offloading data is in market for long time, but due to mobile data traffic it is hot topic now.
• Small cells are the competitor for Wi-Fi offload solution in long run, but in current scenario it is more complicated (because of RAN, business models, management tools) and cost over run solution.
• Now a days most of equipment vendors provide Wi-Fi built-in small cell modules.
• seamless Wi-Fi offload is the ideal remedy to both problems as carriers can offload 50% or more of their traffic to Wi-Fi, and at the same time offer high-value, convenient new services to stand out in the market. - Aptilo Network
• Around 60 % of mobile data will be offloaded to Wi-Fi , with integrated Wi-Fi solutions– juniper research
• Femtocell and Wi-Fi network integration for indoor mobile data traffic with power saving feature.
• To meet rising demands, operators going towards to install more advanced accessing technologies, more base station/hotspot and combination of network technologies
• 24% of all traffic generated from smartphones, laptops, games consoles and e-Readers which have an active 3G/4G connection will be onloaded to the cellular network by 2016. - Juniper Research

ISSUES AND CHALLENGES
Availability of LIPA connectivity to UE, as no standard procedure available. 3GPP define the LIPA requirements TR23.829 V10.
Making core aware of local network so that it can provide UE with LIPA related info. ANDSF (TS 23.402) functionality is being explored to
help in this regards.
Provisioning of extended GTP tunnels through NAS procedures is being explored.
Mobile may be required of having Client software with GTP-U.
