G321: Foundation Portfolio in Media - Marking Criteria

1. Research & Planning (max 20 marks)

OCR Level 4 criteria (16-20 marks)

oExcellent research into similar products and a potential target audience.

oExcellent work on shotlists, layouts, drafting, scripting or storyboarding.

oExcellent organisation of actors, locations, costumes or props.

oTime management is excellent.

oExcellent level of care in the presentation of the research and planning.

2. Construction (max 60 marks)

OCR Level 4 criteria (48-60 marks)

Excellence in the creative use of most of the following technical skills:

oHolding a shot steady, where appropriate

o Framing a shot, including and excluding elements as appropriate

oUsing a variety of shot distances, as appropriate

o Shooting material appropriate to the task set

o Selecting mise-en-scène including colour, figure, lighting, objects and setting

oEditing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer

oUsing varied shot transitions and other effects selectively and appropriately for the task set

oUsing sound with images and editing appropriately for the task set

oUsing titles appropriately

3. Evaluation (max 20 marks)

OCR Level 4 criteria (16-20 marks)

oExcellent understanding of issues around forms and conventions (Q1), representation (Q2),

institution (Q3), audience (Q4-5) and technology (Q6) in relation to production.

oExcellent ability to refer to the choices made and outcomes (Q1-6).

oExcellent understanding of development from preliminary to full task (Q7).

oExcellent ability to communicate.
