Y9 French Scheme of Work 2019 > 20 In y9, all pupils will have chosen their language(s) for KS4 but as part of the normal options process those who have chosen 2 languages will be
allowed to choose one or to continue with both.
91X & 91Y = dual linguists (target grades range from 9 > 5); 3 lessons a fortnight
92X, 92Y, 93X, 93Y = single linguists (target grades range from 6 to 1); 6 lessons a fortnight Dual linguists:
As the dual linguists will have half the number of lessons, the focus should be on grammar items but we should also be aware that as higher
candidates, they will still need considerable vocab input. FLIP the learning as often as possible (i.e. pupils prepare grammar point / vocabulary /
reading / listening / translation / speaking task) at HOME. Check / consolidate / extend this learning in the next lesson. Refer to similarities
in both languages to reinforce patterns / grammar eg.
Depuis / seit + present tense
Modals: subject + conjugated verb + infinitive (at the end in German)
Unit 1
GCSE Higher Scheme of Work

Perfect tense: subject + conjugated auxiliary verb (avoir / haben or être / sein) + past participle (at the end in German)
Future tense: subject + conjugated verb + infinitive (at the end in German)
Stylistic structures: because (parce que etc / weil etc + verb at the end in German), in order to (pour + infinitive / um zu + infinitive)
All classes should aim to cover the elements in the foundation book. Feel free to use any materials from the higher book if you have time and
think pupils will cope with it, especially for the dual linguists. Bear in mind that some pupils in the mixed ability classes will still be higher
candidates.
Please note that for the first half term, units 8 & 9 from Allez should be covered by all 4 classes as transition. This provides useful transition
and covers some important language features. They will not have access to Allez online so hwks should be vocab learning or small bits of reading
/ writing to ensure the knowledge is there. They will start the new AQA course book in November (immediately after half term). Speaking
questions (and writing assessments) are more open ended to allow pupils to be more creative where possible, in line with the new GCSE.
