Responsible for up to 3 rigs in the Deep Basin asset for the first 1 ½ years drilling S-shapes and
horizontal wells in tight gas reservoirs, on one rig MPD was used for drilling part of the
intermediate and reservoir section. Fox Creek was added early 2013 a tight shale reservoir
(asset now called Greater Deep Basin). Responsible for 3 rigs (2 in Fox Creek one in
Foothills). Achieving Shell Wells Global “Most Improved Wells Team Award” for 2013 for Fox Creek. MPD is actively used for drilling the reservoir section in Fox Creek. Brought in
“smaller” ex. Deep Basin rig, drilling the fastest and cheapest well to date in Fox Creek.
Currently responsible for 1 rig in the Foothills asset, drilling the fastest and cheapest sour
Waterton well to date. Scheduling OSR’s and SIT’s. Instrumental in setting up and running
DART team in Calgary for Greater Deep Basin / Foothills. Very involved with Well
Engineering Design team, pushing the well design.
10/06-07/11 Senior Well Engineer Land Planning - NAM – Assen – NL
Leading a team of 3 Lifecycle Well Engineers. Coaching them to become full fletched Well
Engineers. Together with the subsurface development group maturing the land portfolio,
following a fit-for-purpose process, to allow flawless execution by operational team.
Performing all the well design work from well trajectory to casing design. Land has a standard
well design - 12¼” top hole, 9⅝” surface casing, 8½” hole, 7” liner, 6” hole (in case needed 5”
liner, 4⅛” hole) and 3½” cemented completion (current max. depth executed 4835mAH).
Also involved in maturing ‘other’ land work: Barendrecht CCS and de Wijk nitrogen enhanced
gas recovery.
Project lead for:
- development of low cost Rotary Steerable Tool with a small German company for 6” and
8½” hole sizes. The 6” hole size tool was test run. Project has been shelved early 2010 due
to market circumstances.
- implementation of drilling automation in NL (2nd application for Shell worldwide).
Currently being field tested on the DrillTec Synergy II unit.
- Wells next step in land project cost reduction drive – reducing well size further and
optimizing surface hardware.
Working staircase for Drilling Unit to drive well cost further down.

For Jack-up GSF Monarch – Shell’s only Jointed Pipe Underbalanced drilling rig, very
complex operation with a full test package and Nitrogen spread on the rig and a Hydraulic
Workover unit deployed below the rig floor. Drilled 4 UBD wells – L13-FD 103 sidetrack,
Galleon PG09, K17-FA 101 & 102. Using Oil Base Mud for the first time in UBD mode on
PG09. Deploying WWS underbalanced (world first) on K17-FA 102.

containing H2S).
(May 2004 – October 2004)
For Land workover rig ITAG110. Performed re-completions (repairs) and abandonments. As
part of the repairs installed 2 Solid Expendable Completions in 2 wells in the Groningen field (1 world record for longest SET). Executed, using a small pulling hoist from Austria
(ITAG114), a fit for purpose and cheap re-completion on a beam pumper on a well in the
Berkel field. Almost all wells were executed below the 50/50 estimates due to a pragmatic
approach, both in planning and execution. The rig achieved a 1 year zero Total Recordable
Cases (no LTI’s nor MTC’s), first time ever for a Dutch land unit.
(Jan 2004 – April 2004)
