Traveling to the NAPBS Conference
How did folks travel (plane, train, bus, car, bike)?
Of those that flew:
How many flew in a privately owned jet?
How many flew in a chartered jet?

Software as a Service (SaaS)
SaaS applications live in ‘The Cloud’ and are accessed
through a web browser.
2011 Annual Conference March 20-22, 2011
Software as a Service (SaaS)
“Software as a service, sometimes referred to as "software on demand," is software that is deployed over the internet and/or is deployed to run behind a firewall on a local area network or personal computer.
“With SaaS, a provider licenses an application to customers as a service on demand, through a subscription, in a "pay-as-you-go" model.”
2011 Annual Conference March 20-22, 2011
SaaS Advantages• Accessible from anywhere with an internet
connection
• No local server installation
• Pay per use or subscription based payment methods
• Rapid scalability
• System maintenance (backup, updates, security, etc) often included in service
• Possible security improvements, although users with high security requirements (e.g., large corporations) may find SaaS a security concern
• Reliability
• Reduced time to market
2011 Annual Conference March 20-22, 2011
• Where is the data actually residing?
• Who has access to it?
• How secure is the data? Over time?
• Internet and/or network slow-downs impact performance
• Servers in the cloud can crash, too
• Is it even useful for my business?
SaaS Drawbacks
2011 Annual Conference March 20-22, 2011
SaaS – CRM“Customer relationship management (CRM) … involves using technology to organize, automate, and synchronize business processes - principally sales activities, but also those for marketing, customer service, and technical support.
“The overall goals are to find, attract, and win new clients, nurture and retain those the company already has, entice former clients back into the fold, and reduce the costs of marketing and client service.”
- Gartner, Inc. (6 June 2009)
2011 Annual Conference March 20-22, 2011
SaaS - Document Management• Access and work on documents from anywhere, including mobile
devices
• Share and collaborate remotely, integrate with MS Office and Outlook
• Maintain document revisions automatically, restore an old version any time
• Automate workflows, route documents, enhance business processes
