Glenmorgan Gazette
From the Principal…...
As I sit here writing this newsletter I reflect on
how quickly the time has flown in Term 2. We
have completed vast amounts of work during
this term and students must be commended
for their perseverance. With only one week
of school left before the winter break,
students are finalising assessment pieces and
reviewing their learning. We are currently
maintaining over 94% attendance and this
would be an excellent finish to our first
semester – see you all – everyday.
Lithuania Competition – CWA
This year students studied Lithuania – a small
country in northern Europe – and last Friday
we walked round to the CWA hall to share
morning tea with some of the local CWA
ladies and review the entries in the country
study competition from 3 schools. While
there, students learned some phrases in
Lithuanian, played a chasing game of
Lithuanian origin and ate some traditional
biscuits and apple cake. Brooke was
successful in the competition for her year
level with an excellent PowerPoint
presentation and our year four girls, Payton
and Ella, came first and second in their
promotional poster section. Congratulations
to all students who participated in this
competition and thanks to the CWA for the
lovely morning tea.
Josh Arnold
We welcomed Josh Arnold to our school on
6th June and 13th June. Josh worked with our
students to write, practise then video a
special song about Glenmorgan kids and their
community. Our song is titled G’day
Glenmorgan and will be launched next week
at Tara on Thursday 27th June. All families,
and any interested community members, are
encouraged to attend and watch the students
perform in front of a live audience and see
the video compilation. I am immensely proud
of the work completed by Josh and the
students and wish them all the best for next
Thursday.
Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
Thanks to the parents and community
members who joined us on Wednesday 22nd
May for the Biggest Morning Tea. We raised
$119.20 for the Cancer Council. We also
loved having the little visitors on the day who
shared Alpacas with Maracas with us for
National Simultaneous Storytime. We
listened, laughed and danced with maracas in
our library and a good time was had by all.
Thanks again to everyone who joined us for a
story and morning tea.
Tuck Shop
Thanks to our P&C students enjoy tuckshop
at school once a fortnight. Our last tuckshop
day for term 2 will be Tuesday 25th June.
Woolworth’s Earn & Learn
Thank you to everyone who has assisted us in
gathering stickers during the Earn & Learn
promotion. We have yet to do a final count as
we know some of you still have a last few
stickers to drop into the school. We look
forward to sharing photos of the new
equipment our school will be able to
purchase with the stickers.

Sporting news
Not a lot of sporting news this month. Brooke
attended the Tennis trial in Tara and I have
taken up the role of manager for the Tara &
District softball team. The next event for
most of our school students will be the Red
Ball Tennis in Tara on 5th August.
Fitness Fun on Fridays
During HPE on Fridays, our students are
participating in fun lessons where they
improving their fitness, agility and ball
handling skills. I hear the laughter and see the
excited faces on students during these
lessons and know that being outdoors really
is good for all of us.
Classroom and Curriculum notes:
Homework
This is the last week of homework for the
term and it has been pleasing to see the
efforts that students are putting into
completing their homework each week.
Students’ neatness has improved as the term
passed and I’m hoping this continues next
term as well.
Poetry
This Friday our students will participate in an
online poetry workshop with Kathryn Apel. By
linking via an eLearning platform our students
can access the same opportunities to work
with creative presenters as their city
counterparts. While this is a one off learning
experience, the use of technology to link our
students with the wider world and different
learning journeys is an everyday occurrence.
Reading
Thanks to the mothers who have volunteered
to assist with our ‘3 minute reads’ to practise
fluency. Students do enjoy having you in the
classroom and your help is always
appreciated.
All students are continuing to show
improvement in reading so our daily
emphasis on reading is having a positive
result. Students already reassessed this term
have moved forward up to two reading
levels, which is an awesome effort.
‘Numerous studies have consistently shown
that 10 minutes exposure to reading
materials is all it takes to positively shape
your child’s future’. This quote from the
recent book club magazine reminds me that
the time you give to reading each day with
homework is as important as what happens
here at school. Whether you are looking at
picture books, comic books, novels, reading
recipes or the back of the cereal box – it all
counts!
Maths
Term 2 has brought about a change of focus
for maths with measurement and number
study taking up most of the Maths time each
lesson. Measurement includes length and
height, weights and capacity, measuring
liquids and solids as well as measuring
surface area and volume. We will have time
for inquiry experiences during the term with
cooking, building and construction. Makes
Maths sounds like lots of fun this term!
