Caythorpe Family Estate has collected a Gold Medal at the prestigious San

Francisco International Wine Competition for its 2016 Marlborough Sauvignon

Blanc.

Viticulturist Simon Bishell said the award was phenomenal considering this is

only the second vintage Caythorpe had released to market, with the brand being

launched in 2015. “The award is testament to our underlying dedication of

quality in the vineyard and the skills of winemaker Jeremy McKenzie. As a small

New Zealand producer to be recognised by one of the biggest and most

respected wine competitions in the world makes us very proud”.

The San Francisco International Wine Competition was founded in 1980 and is

one of the world’s longest running international shows. It is the largest

international competition in the United States, attracting over 4,000 entries in

2017. The judging panel is made up of over 50 international wine industry

experts and critics, while Gold Medal winners are defined as “excellent wines

meeting very high standards”.

Full results will be posted online by 1st August at http://sfwinecomp.com/

About Caythorpe Family Estate

The Caythorpe property, situated adjacent Marlborough Airport has been farmed

by the Bishell family for five generations. Traditionally a mixed cropping farm,

Murray and the late Diana Bishell planted their first vines in 1987, neighbouring

the original Montana Fairhall Estate on the Wairau Plains. Originally grapes

were on-sold to other wineries in the region, but in 2015 Murray and Diana’s

sons Simon and Scott created their own label, Caythorpe Family Estate. They

now produce Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Noir and the wines are made

by renowned Marlborough winemaker Jeremy McKenzie.
