Waste Not
A “Not for Profit” Business plan to
alleviate national and global hunger
Currently there is an excess of food
Every year in the UK 6 million tonnes of good food is sent to
landfill by food retailers
With a combined value of £7.6 billion
The Problem
And thousands of people desperately need food
In a recent study released by Oxfam entitled „Walking the breadline‟
they estimate that by 2015 over 500,000 people will require food aid.
The Problem
But the excess just isn‟t finding its way to those who need it most
The Problem
And people are starting to take serious notice!
The Problem
There is a huge
amount of press
around the topic
and a TED talk with
over 700k views
Searches for “food
waste” have been
rising since 2007
(Source: Google

A lot of social
negativity around
the topic

1) Joe‟s sandwich shop in
Peckham registers as a „Waste
Not Donator‟
3) Joe‟s upload that every
tuesday and thursday they have
between 20 - 40 sandwiches to
throw away.
6) Joe‟s recieve a „Waste Not
Donator‟ certification
2) Peckham Road Soup Kitchen
(PKRS) registers as a „Waste
Not Reciever‟
4) PRSK receive a notification
that Joe‟s sandwich shop have
between 20 - 40 sandwiches
5) Arrange to collect the
sandwiches from Joe‟s on
Tuesday and Thursdays
evenings.
7) Distribute sandwiches to the
homeless and hungry through the
Peckham Road Soup Kitchen
The Idea
Business with excess food
Charity in need of food
Both parties can log into mobile or
web app to arrange delivery of
food
Our CompetitorsLove Food, Fare share and Food cycle are the UK‟s major Food
Charities
Between the three charities they have a total of 31 hubs around
the UK dedicated to serving food and educating the public to cut
down on food wastage.
Some business are working to distribute their waste food. For
example delivers 12,000 meals per week to the homeless
However, in June 2013 it was announce 18% of the UK‟s
population was living in food poverty and food wastage was at
high.
Why does it not work?
• Huge quantities of food is thrown away simply to avoid the
potential liability if people are taken ill.
• Laziness! We need to travel to them
• Apart from minor financial incentives, being conscientious with
food waste just isn‟t worth the while of a lot of businesses.
How can we make it work?
