GPCA at a glance
The Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA) is the first trade association
of its kind in the Gulf region. And in six short years it has become the benchmark for
the regions industry as well as its voice to the rest of the world. It has established
powerful credentials and gained a tangible credibility and trustworthiness. Its burgeoning
membership is eloquent testimony to the positive role it plays in promoting the currentpriorities and issues prevailing in the petrochemical sector.
The eight visionary founding members who launched the concept in 2006 are SABIC and
TASNEE from Saudi Arabia, QAPCO and QVC from Qatar, PIC and Equate from Kuwait,
Borouge from Abu Dhabi, and GPIC from Bahrain.
Since then GPCAs membership base has been growing at the phenomenal rate of 23%
per annum. By the end of 2011, GPCAs full member companies, the regional producers
of petrochemical and chemicals, collectively represented as high as 95% of the total
Gulfs petrochemical output by volume, thus, placing GPCA in the unrivalled position ofbeing the industrial spokesperson on matters of importance.

GDP in Kuwait in 2011
10.6%contribution of petrochemicalsto manufacturing GDP in 2011
Kuwaits real GDP growth in 2011 is estimated at around 8.2%, supported by a 15% increase in
oil production. Growth of non-oil economic activity is estimated at around 4.5% in 2011 driven byhigher government expenditure which has increased by almost 20% in the 2011-2012 scal year.
Oil and Gas sector continues to account for the majority of Kuwaits GDP representing 62% of
real GDP in 2011. Oil prices remained high based on strong demand from emerging economies
and tight supply. Aside from contributing to national output, higher oil revenues helped to support
government development plans. Among the plans goals is diversifying the economy away from
hydrocarbons, which is expected to lead to a higher growth of the non-hydrocarbon sector.
Manufacturing sector saw 5.1 % growth in 2011 over 2010 levels. Petrochemicals contribution to
Kuwaits economy is estimated at 0.49% which represents 10.6% share of manufacturing GDP.
