THE WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED WITH AS LITTLE NUISANCE AS POSSIBLE.
D-8 THE WORK SHALL COMPLY WITH THE APPLICABLE PROVISIONS AND RECOMMENDATION OF ANSI A10.2, SAFETY CODE FORBUILDING CONSTRUCTION, ALL GOVERNING CODES, AND AS HEREINAFTER SPECIFIED.

D-14 CONTRACTOR, HIS EMPLOYEES OR SUBCONTRACTORS UNDER THE CONTRACTOR’S AUTHORITY SHALL CONTROL DUST, CREATED INTHE EXECUTION OF CONTRACT WORK, TO COMPLY WITH 29 CFR 1910 AND NIOSH STANDARDS. THIS INCLUDES ANY DUST CREATEDRELATED TO CONCRETE WORK SPECIFICALLY FROM DRILLING, GRINDING, CUTTING OR SCRAPING. CONTRACTOR MUST ALSO COMPLY WITH OWNER’S ORGANIZATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY POLICY AND PROCEDURES.

C-2A HYDRAULIC CEMENT:
PORTLAND CEMENT: PORTLAND CEMENT SHALL BE TYPE II CONFORMING TO ASTM C 150. TYPE I CEMENT MAY BE USEDPROVIDED EITHER FLY ASH OR GROUND GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG IS ALSO INCLUDED IN THE MIX IN ACCORDANCEWITH ARTICLES C-2B OR C-2C RESPECTIVELY.
FOR CONCRETE MIXED WITH ONLY PORTLAND CEMENT, THE TOTAL ALKALIES IN THE CEMENT (CALCULATED AS THE PERCENTAGE
OF NA2O PLUS 0.658 TIMES THE PERCENTAGE OF K2O) SHALL NOT EXCEED 0.40%.
FOR CONCRETE MIXED WITH PORTLAND CEMENT AND AN APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF FLY ASH (ARTICLE C-2B) OR GROUND
GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG (ARTICLE C-2C) THE TOTAL ALKALIES IN THE PORTLAND CEMENT (CALCULATED AS THE
PERCENTAGE OF NA2O PLUS 0.658 TIMES THE PERCENTAGE OF K2O) SHALL NOT EXCEED 0.85%.
C-2B FLY ASH:
A. FLY ASH SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF ASTM C 618 FOR CLASS F, EXCEPT THAT THE LOSS ON IGNITION SHALL NOTEXCEED 4%. FLY ASH SHALL ALSO MEET THE OPTIONAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR UNIFORMITY AS SHOWN IN TABLE 3 OF
ASTM C 618.
B. FOR CONCRETE TO BE USED IN ENVIRONMENTAL CONCRETE STRUCTURES, I.E. PROCESS STRUCTURES OR FLUID CONTAININGSTRUCTURES, INCLUSION OF FLY ASH OR GROUND GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG IN THE CONCRETE MIX, IS MANDATORY.

C-2C GROUND GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG
A. GROUND GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG SHALL MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF ASTM C 989 INCLUDING TESTS FOR EFFECTIVENESS OF
SLAG IN PREVENTING EXCESSIVE EXPANSION DUE TO ALKALI-AGGREGATE REACTIVITY AS DESCRIBED IN APPENDIX X-3 OF ASTM C 989.
B. FOR CONCRETE TO BE USED IN ENVIRONMENTAL CONCRETE STRUCTURES, I.E. PROCESS STRUCTURES OR FLUID CONTAINING STRUCTURES,
INCLUSION OF FLY ASH OR GROUND GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG IN THE CONCRETE MIX, IS MANDATORY.
C. THE GROUND GRANULATED BLAST FURNACE SLAG CONSTITUENT SHALL BE BETWEEN 35% AND 40% OF THE TOTAL WEIGHT OF
THE COMBINED PORTLAND CEMENT AND SLAG.
C-2D AGGREGATES
A. ALL AGGREGATES USED IN NORMAL WEIGHT CONCRETE SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM C 33.
B. FINE AGGREGATE (SAND) IN THE VARIOUS CONCRETE MIXES SHALL CONSIST OF NATURAL OR MANUFACTURED SILICEOUS SAND,CLEAN AND FREE FROM DELETERIOUS SUBSTANCES, AND GRADED WITHIN THE LIMITS OF ASTM C 33.
C. COARSE AGGREGATES SHALL CONSIST OF HARD, CLEAN, DURABLE GRAVEL, CRUSHED GRAVEL OR CRUSHED ROCK. COARSEAGGREGATE SHALL BE SIZE #57 OR #67 AS GRADED WITHIN THE LIMITS GIVEN IN ASTM C 33 UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.
D. AGGREGATES SHALL BE TESTED FOR GRADATION BY SIEVE ANALYSIS TESTS IN CONFORMANCE WITH ASTM C 136.
E. AGGREGATES SHALL BE TESTED FOR SOUNDNESS IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM C 88. THE LOSS RESULTING AFTER FIVE CYCLESSHALL NOT EXCEED 10 PERCENT FOR FINE OR COARSE AGGREGATE WHEN USING MAGNESIUM SULFATE.
C-2E ADMIXTURES
A. AN AIR ENTRAINING AGENT SHALL BE ADDED TO ALL CONCRETE UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE. THE AGENT SHALL CONSIST OF ANEUTRALIZED VINSOL RESIN SOLUTION OR A PURIFIED HYDROCARBON WITH A CEMENT CATALYST WHICH WILL PROVIDEENTRAINED AIR IN THE CONCRETE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM C 260. THE ADMIXTURE PROPOSED SHALL BE SELECTED IN
ADVANCE SO THAT ADEQUATE SAMPLES MAY BE OBTAINED AND THE REQUIRED TESTS MADE. AIR CONTENT OF CONCRETE,WHEN PLACED, SHALL BE WITHIN THE RANGES GIVEN IN THE CONCRETE MIX DESIGN.
B. USE OF A WATER REDUCER ADMIXTURE CONFORMING TO ASTM C494, TYPE A OR A HIGH RANGE WATER REDUCING ADMIXTURECONFORMING TO ASTM C494, TYPE F OR G SHALL BE PERMITTED WHEN APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER.
C-3 WATER
WATER USED FOR MIXING CONCRETE SHALL BE CLEAR, POTABLE AND FREE FROM DELETERIOUS SUBSTANCES SUCH ASOBJECTIONABLE QUANTITIES OF SILTY ORGANIC MATTER, ALKALI, SALTS AND OTHER IMPURITIES.
WATER SHALL NOT CONTAIN MORE THAN 100 PPM CHLORIDE.
WATER SHALL NOT CONTAIN MORE THAN 500 PPM DISSOLVED SOLIDS.

WALLS OR SLABS, THEY SHALL NOT OCCUPY MORE THAN 1/3 OF THE MEMBER THICKNESS.
C-12 AT ALL TYPICAL CURBS, EQUIPMENT PADS, AND PIPE SUPPORT PIERS, REINFORCING DOWELS SHOWN MAY BE REPLACED WITHMATCHING DOWELS SET IN EPOXY IN DRILLED HOLES AS SPECIFIED. DOWELS LOCATED CLOSER THAN 3" FROM ANY EDGE OFCONCRETE SHALL NOT BE REPLACED WITH DRILLED DOWELS.
C-13 DRILLED ADHESIVE DOWELS (WHERE DOWELS ARE SHOWN TO BE PLACED INTO HARDENED CONCRETE):
A) THE HOLE DIAMETER SHALL BE NO LARGER THAN 1/8" GREATER THAN THE DIAMETER OF THE REINFORCING BAR AT THE
DEFORMATIONS.
B) THE DEPTH OF EMBEDMENT SHALL BE 12 BAR DIAMETERS, UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE.
C) ADJUST THE DOWEL LOCATIONS AS NEEDED TO AVOID DRILLING THROUGH ANY REINFORCING BARS. IF THE LOCATIONNEEDS TO BE MODIFIED, CONTACT THE ENGINEER. CONTRACTOR SHALL USE NON-DESTRUCTIVE MEANS TO FIELD LOCATE
REINFORCEMENT PRIOR TO DRILLING HOLES FOR DOWELS.
C-14 CLEAR DISTANCE FROM ANCHOR BOLTS TO ANY CONCRETE EDGE SHALL BE 4" MINIMUM UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE.
C-15 ALL FRESHLY PLACED CONCRETE SHALL BE PROTECTED FROM THE ELEMENTS, FLOWING WATER AND FROM DEFACEMENT OF
ANY NATURE DURING CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS. AS SOON AS THE CONCRETE HAS BEEN PLACED AND HORIZONTAL TOPSURFACES HAVE RECEIVED THEIR REQUIRED FINISH, PROVISION SHALL BE MADE FOR MAINTAINING THE CONCRETE IN A
MOIST CONDITION FOR AT LEAST A 5-DAY PERIOD THEREAFTER. HORIZONTAL SURFACES SHALL BE KEPT COVERED, AND

C-16 FORMED SURFACES OF CONCRETE CURBS SHALL RECEIVE A TYPE III FINISH. TOP SURFACES OF CONCRETE CURBS SHALL RECEIVE A TYPE "D"FINISH.
A) TYPE I - ROUGH: ALL FINS, BURRS, OFFSETS, MARKS AND ALL OTHER PROJECTIONS LEFT BY THE FORMS SHALL BE REMOVED. PROJECTIONS,DEPRESSIONS, ETC. BELOW FINISHED GRADE REQUIRED TO BE REMOVED WILL ONLY BE THOSE GREATER THAN ¼-INCH. ALL HOLES LEFT BYREMOVAL OF ENDS OF TIES, AND ALL OTHER HOLES, DEPRESSIONS, BUGHOLES, AIR/BLOW HOLES OR VOIDS SHALL BE FILLED SOLID WITHCEMENT GROUT AFTER FIRST BEING THOROUGHLY WETTED AND THEN STRUCK OFF FLUSH. THE ONLY HOLES BELOW GRADE TO BE FILLEDWILL BE TIE HOLES AND ANY OTHER HOLES LARGER THAN ¼-INCH IN ANY DIMENSION. HONEYCOMBS SHALL BE CHIPPED BACK TO SOLIDCONCRETE AND REPAIRED AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. ALL HOLES SHALL BE FILLED WITH TOOLS, SUCH AS SPONGE FLOATS ANDTROWELS, THAT WILL PERMIT PACKING THE HOLE SOLIDLY WITH CEMENT GROUT. CEMENT GROUT SHALL CONSIST OF ONE PART CEMENT TOTHREE PARTS SAND, EPOXY BONDING AGENT (FOR TIE HOLES ONLY) AND THE AMOUNT OF MIXING WATER SHALL BE AS LITTLE ASCONSISTENT WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF HANDLING AND PLACING. COLOR OF CEMENT GROUT SHALL MATCH THE ADJACENT WALLSURFACE.
B) TYPE II - GROUT CLEANED: WHERE THIS FINISH IS REQUIRED, IT SHALL BE APPLIED AFTER COMPLETION OF TYPE I FINISH. AFTER THECONCRETE HAS BEEN PREDAMPENED, A SLURRY CONSISTING OF ONE PART CEMENT (INCLUDING AN APPROPRIATE QUANTITY OF WHITECEMENT IN ORDER TO PRODUCE A COLOR MATCHING THE SURROUNDING CONCRETE) AND 1-1/2 PARTS SAND PASSING THE NO. 16 SIEVE, BYDAMP LOOSE VOLUME, SHALL BE SPREAD OVER THE SURFACE WITH CLEAN BURLAP PADS OR SPONGE RUBBER FLOATS. C) TYPE III - SMOOTH RUBBED: WHERE THIS FINISH IS REQUIRED, IT SHALL BE APPLIED AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE TYPE II FINISH. NORUBBING SHALL BE DONE BEFORE THE CONCRETE IS THOROUGHLY HARDENED AND THE MORTAR USED FOR PATCHING IS FIRMLY SET. ASMOOTH, UNIFORM SURFACE SHALL BE OBTAINED BY WETTING THE SURFACE AND RUBBING IT WITH A CARBORUNDUM STONE TO ELIMINATEIRREGULARITIES. UNLESS THE NATURE OF THE IRREGULARITIES REQUIRES IT, THE GENERAL SURFACE OF THE CONCRETE SHALL NOT BECUT INTO. CORNERS AND EDGES SHALL BE SLIGHTLY ROUNDED BY THE USE OF THE CARBORUNDUM STONE. BRUSH FINISHING ORPAINTING WITH GROUT OR NEAT CEMENT WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.
D) TYPE "A" - SCREEDED: THIS FINISH SHALL BE OBTAINED BY PLACING SCREEDS AT FREQUENT INTERVALS AND STRIKING OFF TO THESURFACE ELEVATION REQUIRED. WHEN A TYPE "F" FINISH IS SUBSEQUENTLY TO BE APPLIED, THE SURFACE OF THE SCREEDED CONCRETESHALL BE ROUGHENED WITH A CONCRETE RAKE TO 1/2” MINIMUM DEEP GROOVES PRIOR TO FINAL SET.
E) TYPE "B" - WOOD OR MAGNESIUM FLOATED: THIS FINISH SHALL BE OBTAINED AFTER COMPLETION OF A TYPE "A" FINISH BY WORKING APREVIOUSLY SCREEDED SURFACE WITH A WOOD OR MAGNESIUM FLOAT OR UNTIL THE DESIRED TEXTURE IS REACHED. FLOATING SHALLBEGIN WHEN THE WATER SHEEN HAS DISAPPEARED AND WHEN THE CONCRETE HAS SUFFICIENTLY HARDENED SO THAT A PERSON'S FOOTLEAVES ONLY A SLIGHT IMPRINT. F) TYPE "D" - STEEL TROWELED: THIS FINISH SHALL BE OBTAINED AFTER COMPLETION OF A TYPE "B" FINISH. WHEN THE CONCRETE HASHARDENED SUFFICIENTLY TO PREVENT EXCESS FINE MATERIAL FROM WORKING TO THE SURFACE, THE SURFACE SHALL BE COMPACTED ANDSMOOTHED WITH NOT LESS THAN TWO THOROUGH AND COMPLETE STEEL TROWELING OPERATIONS.
