Its location
• Greece known since ancient times as Hellas is a country in Southern Europe.
• AAthens is the nation’s capital and the largest city.
• Greece is strategically located at the crossroads of Europe, Western Asia and Africa.
• The Aegean Sea lies to the east of the mainland, the Ionian Sea to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the south.

Climate
• The climate of Greece is mediterranean with hot and dry summers and winters that can be quite cold and wet.
• The weather is mostly sunny and summers are usually very hot. In July and August temperatures usually reach 30 to 35°C, but sometimes even 40°C and more.

Greek religion
The religion of Greek people is an important aspect of the Greek culture. The Greek population in mainland Greece and the Greek islands is Christian Orthodox per 98%. The religion of rest of the population is Muslims, Catholic and Jewish.

EASTER is the most sacred observance in the Greek orthodox faith.
Preparations and customs remain some of the most traditional in modern Greek
life.
• The holiest day of Holy week is Holy Friday. Church bells ring all day in slow mournful tone.From the early morning hours in all the greek churches , the
epitaph ,decorated of flowers is ready to receive the body of Jesus.

• On Holy Saturday , the Eternal Flame is brought to Greece by military jet , and it is distributed to waiting priests who carry it to their local churches.

• The Midnight service of the Resurrection is an occasion attended by everyone who is able , including children , each holding a white candle.

• The main dish at the Easter Table is the Easter Lamb or goat (usually kid) .Also kokoretsi ,magiritsa and dyed red Easter eggs that become pieces of a traditional game. Each person takes an egg and challengers attempt to crack each other’s eggs. The breaking of the eggs is meant to symbolize Christ breaking from the Tomb.

• The greek educational system is mainly divided into three levels , primary, secondary and tertiary.
• Primary education is divided into kindergarten lasting one or two years and primary school spanning six years (ages 6 to 12).

• Agrinio is the largest city of Aetoloakarnania regional of Greece, with 106,000 inhabitants. It is the economical center of Aetoloakarnania, although its capital is the town of Mesolonghi.
• The majority of the local population was occupied for an important period of time in the tobacco industry. Big tobacco companies were founded in the city, including the famous Papastratos.
