About the Organizers

The City of EvanstonThe City of Evanston has a longstanding commitment to sustainability, climate action, and livability. Since 2006 with the signing onto the US Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement, Evanston created the 2008 Evanston Climate Action Plan (ECAP), achieved a 4-STAR Community Rating, been named the World Wildlife Fund’s 2015 U.S. Earth Hour Capital, signed onto the Global Covenant of Mayors, and served as a founding member of the Mayors National Climate Action Agenda (MNCAA).The City recently secured a three-year community electricity contract for 100% renewable energy (2017–2020), purchases 100% renewable energy for the majority of City-owned facilities and passed an energy and water benchmarking and disclosure ordinance. By the end of 2016, Evanston had reduced community-wide emissions by almost 19% relative to a 2005 baseline.

Citizens’ Greener Evanston (CGE)Citizens’ Greener Evanston (CGE) works to make Evanston a more sustainable community—environmentally, economically and socially—and to address climate change by dramatically reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. With its partners EEA and City of Evanston, CGE is proud to present Streets Alive, a public event to encourage a culture of bicycling and walking by demonstrating that they are convenient, easy, safe, green, healthy, sociable, and fun.

The Evanston Environmental Association (EEA) The Evanston Environmental Association (EEA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the programs of the Evanston Ecology Center and promoting environmental awareness to the surrounding community. The EEA first presented the Evanston Green Living Festival eleven years ago to encourage and inspire attendees to live more sustainable lives. In 2015, the Green Living Festival was then integrated into the burgeoning Streets Alive event. In 2017, the EEA is pleased to present Streets Alive and the Green Living Festival in partnership with both CGE and the city of Evanston.
