Our Backstory
Our company came into being in college, while we were all Office
Administration students. We were assigned a group project together.
It was here we discovered a passion for designing and creating
business stationery. The group worked so well, we took our synergy into
the workplace, and created our own design company.
Our Brand
Girls Design
We opted for a logo that was
simple and to the point. We are a
design company, owned by four
women. Therefore we are 4 Girls
Design. We felt that the word
choice of “Girls” would appeal to
the young, up and coming
entrepreneur, while our quality of
work would stand for itself in
appealing to the older, more
mature market.
Lezlee Warren
Managing Director for Client Services
I am excited to be a second year Records and Information student; I love the Office Administration program so much that I want to teach it. The plan is to continue my education after I’ve finished the program and have some experience. I am a Federal Government employee; I started at the CRA during the summer. While I like it there, it’s not where I see myself in ten years. I love to sew and bake; I made my wedding dress (years ago) and even recently started decorating cakes. I’ve always been a creative person. I love to design things and work with colours. I have a niece, a nephew, and a foster nephew with whom I am very close, as well as a future step-child, but no kids of my own. I’m originally from Bay Roberts, but consider St. John’s home.
Savannah Boyd
Junior Director for Client Services
I am enrolled in Office Administration,
Records and Information Management
Program at the College of the North
Atlantic. I enjoy camping and spending time
with my family, especially summers at the
cabin.
Sarah Baird
Visual Image Designer
I am a current Records Information &
Management student at the College of the
North Atlantic. I enjoy the outdoors, hiking,
woodwork, painting, camping, and drawing.
I love animals of all kinds and my pets
include a silky terrier pup named Athena,
and my four cats who I love dearly. I live in
beautiful Petty Harbor Newfoundland but I
am originally from the Goulds. I was in
charge of editing the photos that we took
around the college. We had lots of fun
taking the photos, it was a blast.
Tina Chafe
Multimedia Designer
As a Records and Information Management
Student, I love working behind the scenes to
keep things organized and running smoothly. In
my spare time, I enjoy attending conventions
about the science fiction/fantasy world. I am
also very active the local dog community,
working with several animal rescue
organizations, as well as advocating to change
the public’s perception of misunderstood breeds
and spreading a message of responsible dog
ownership. I also enjoy traveling, but will always
call St. John’s my home.
Our Latest Challenge
Our latest challenge brought us back to the
college where we met, to design new logos
and stationery for the college bookstore and
student café. We took some time to get a
feel for the locations and revisit old, familiar
places.
3 Rooms Café
The letterhead is actually the first thing I created. I wanted something contemporary, instead of the traditional letterhead style. For me, 3 Rooms Café is everything shown in this picture. At any time, you can find students sitting in there with their books, laptops, phones, and coffee—so much coffee. These images represent 3 Rooms Café to me, and they make a sleek looking letterhead. I included our team logo right at the bottom, as a light watermark, to make sure admirers would know who was responsible for the design.
3 Rooms Café
Again, for a sense of cohesion, I made
sure to connect the letterhead and the
business card. I kept it simple, and
included a snip from another section of
the same picture used in the letterhead.
It wasn’t until I had both the letterhead
and the business card designed that I
came up with the logo. Though it is
small, our team logo is also included
here. It is by no means the focal point,
but I wanted to be sure that our brand
was getting out there, too.
This logo was designed with our team logo in mind. To create a sense
of cohesion, I decided to connect with that. The curly, script-like font
used for the three is quite similar to the 4 on our logo. Also, in order
to pay homage to the past and the old logo, Savannah suggested that I
use green for the 3, and I think it turned out really well.

Employee Profile
Form
This is a simple employee
information form, created using
a Word template, to allow 3
Rooms Café to input
information about their new
employees. It is the back-end
tool, not what will be seen by
people visiting 3 Rooms Café.
Responses can be recorded
electronically, and carried over
into the employee profile
template as needed
Employee
Profile Form
The template is designed to work well as a printed poster. The large font and bright colours on white background should be easy to read from a slight distance. The green coloured border was chosen to match the font colour used in the logo, which of course appears at the bottom. Since the students in the school are not really our team’s target customers, I decided it was better not to risk taking away from the poster by putting our watermark in there.
Employee Profile
This is a sample of what the
template looks like when
completed. The large photo of
Jenny is the focal point, drawing
the eye in to read about her time
with 3 Rooms Café. This is the
sort of thing that would be posted
on the bulletin board in the café.
CNA Bookstore
Many a dollar has been
spent here. Maybe Lezlee
thought we’d get a
discount if we bought in
bulk?
CNA Bookstore
When creating this letterhead I choose
the simple book background to create a
simple but professional looking letter
head with the location included. With
the finishing design help of Lezlee
Warren we did finishing touches to
create a letterhead also the company
logo to complement the bookstore.
CNA Bookstore
When designing this business card for
the CNA bookstore I took in
consideration to include a background
of books and make the white text on a
darker background to show more
enfaces towards the company name.
Along with the help of Lezlee Warren
we collaborated our ideas together to
create a professional business card.
With both of our ideas we created a
business card to represent the
company.
Employee Profile
When creating the employee
profile I created in word to
highlight the important and fun
facts of each staff member
within the book store. This
simple poster creates a focal
point on the employee picture
to enhance quality. The colors
all complement each other in
the poster to create a simplistic
poster.
