UPSC Syllabus for Paper II- (200 marks) Duration: Two hours (Not counted for the merit rank in Prelims but a qualifying Paper; just needs 33% marks)Ÿ Comprehension.Ÿ Interpersonal skills including communication skills.Ÿ Logical reasoning and analytical ability.Ÿ Decision-making and problem-solving.Ÿ General mental ability.Ÿ Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data suficiency etc. –

Never underestimate the importance of UPSC Prelims. Only 3 out of 100 candidates who appear for Prelims, clear the cut-off score. Yes, the 'Prelims Hurdle' has gradually become dificult but you should also understand that Preliminary stage is actually just a qualifying stage. Therefore, one should study for Prelims in such a manner that it somehow contributes more to Mains Stage than just merely allowing to write that examination.
PRELIMINARYSTRATEGY:
WhatisSyllabusforPreliminaryStage?
Civil Services Preliminary exam comprises of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II). The questions will be of multiple choices, objective type. The marks in prelims will not be counted for inal ranking, but just for qualiication for main exam. The Commission will draw a list of candidates to be qualiied for Civil Service (Main) Examination based on the criterion of minimum qualifying marks of 33% in General Studies Paper-II of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination and total qualifying marks of General Studies Paper-I of Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination as may be determined by the Commission. The exam is competitive and the qualifying mark does not just depend on absolute individual performances but on relative individual performances.
What is the beneit of clearing Preliminary Examination? The qualifying students of this round will get a chance to write Civil Services Mains Examination.
