In September Walter will enterCornell Uiversity.

Steven Ernst Wallach, son ofMr. and Mrs. Eduard Wallach, ofKishawana Farm, Brewster, N.Y.was a member of the graduatingclass at the 111th Commence-ment of The Gunnery School forBoys at Washington; Conn., heldJune 10. Wallach plans to enterthe U.S. Air Force Academy.

Wallach entered The Gunneryin 1959 and has participated inmany extracurricular activities.He has been a member of TheGunnery News staff, SpanishClub, Library Committee, andRifle Club.

In the field of athletics, Wal-lach has been active in VarsitySoccer, Junior Varsity Tennis,Hockey and Wrestling.

C. LAGER TILLJANDER45 YEARS BANK TELLERIn June 1916 C. Lager Till-

jander went to work in the FirstNational Bank of Brewster, N.Y.Major Frank Wells was presidentand Edward D. Stannard, cashier.This year, the 45th anniversary ofhis service in the bank, touchedoff a dinner in his honor at theMasse Restaurant in CrotonFalls.

Officers of the bank and staff,including Henry H. Wells, son ofMajor Frank Wells, and a formerpresident made the - occasionmemorable.

Mr. Tilljander, expert book-keeper as well as teller, has a longrecord of service in this commun-ity. Beginning in 1929 he acted astreasurer of the School District fortwenty-two years. For thirty-sixyears he held positions of trust inSt. Andrew's Episcopal Church:Vestryman, Clerk, Treasurer,Junior Warden and SeniorWarden.

Among those present at thedinner were Mr. Tilljander's wife,the former Martha Fagam alsomembers of the bank staff,

Thomas Rooney, Mary Mullark-ey, Jane Davis, Janet Chirasello,Nina Bove, Helen Terwilliger,Mary Loe Terwilliger and Veron-ica Fitkat.

Anthony Furco, contractor,now engaged in remodeling thesteps of the Town Hall, unearthefrom the supporting brick work ofthe steps a soda pop bottlebearing the words E. J. Connor,Brewsters, N.Y, The Town Hallwas opened about 1985.

Republicans had a big celebra-tion there in 18% when theMcKinley campaign was in fullswing.

and New York City attended theaffair.

Miss Chirasello will become thebride of Mr. Willy Hoecker, ofHolmes, on July 1. She is agraduate of Brewster High Schoolin the Class of 1959.

Mrs. Arthur Vail who recentlysuffered a broken arm, is apatient at Northern WestchesterHospital. •

Pvt. Frank McDonald, U.S.Marine Corps, Parris Island, S.C , has completely recoveredfrom pneumonia and is back atbasic training.

Mrs. Sarah E. Renfrew, of NewYork City, has arrived at hersummer home at Peach Lake.Her sister, Miss Dorothea Enniswill be with her for the season.

John Principe, Jr, son of Mr.and Mrs. John Principe, of CrotonFalls, has completed his fresh-man year at St. Lawrence Uni-versity, Canton, N.Y. Hissiter,Mary, has finished her first yearat St. Cyril Academy, Danville,Pennsylvania.

Miss Chloe Goossen, daughterof Mr. and Mrs. Behrend M.Goossen, is home for the summerfrom MacDuffie School for Girls,Springfield, Mass. She willreturn in September for hersenior year.

Thomas Piazza, of PeaceableHill was honored on Sunday at abirthday party given at the homeof his son-in-law and daughter,Mr. and Mrs. Babon of PanoramaDrive. A buffet lunch for 23members of Mr. Piazza's family,including 12 grandchildren, wasserved.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Garnseyspent Saturday on Long Islandwith their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Krausewho were celebrating their ele-venth wedding anniversary.Other guests were Mr. and mrs.

Roy Garnsey and son of Valhalla,and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Krause,Sr., of Brooklyn.

Anne Vail has completed herjunior year at the MacDuffieSchool for Girls at Springfield,Mass., and returned to the homeof her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.Hubert Vail, Peach Lake Road.

Leonard Schenider is a surgicalpatient at St. Luke's Hospital,New York City.

Mr. and Mrs. David Carroll, of37 Bloomer Road, announce thebirth of a second daughter,Loretta Anne, at Danbury Hospit-al on June 3. The Carrolls alsohave two sons.

A family dinner party last weekcelebrated the 8th birthday of LeeAnn Pinckney, daughter of Mr.and Mrs. LaVerne Pinckney, ofPine Road.

Hal Christensen, son of Mr. andMrs. George Christensen, ofTonetta Lake Park, has completedhis junior year at SyracuseUniversity, and is spending thesummer vacation with Ihisparents.

The Carmel afternoon bridgeclub met at the home of Mrs. A.C. Penny on Friday afternoon forluncheon and cards. Prizewinners were the hostess, Mrs.Cortlandt Fish and Mrs.Raymond Cole.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Kelleyheld the highest score at duplic-ate on Wednesday evening, whenfour tables were in play. Secondplace went to Mrs. Louis Rose-Mrs. Harold Beal, and consola-tion went to Mr. and Mrs. A. C.Penny.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles MacNiel,of Haiti, are visiting Mr. and Mrs.Arthur Vail, of Peach Lake. Theyare attending the ceremoniesincident to the graduation of theirson, Nicholas from PrincetonUniversity on June 13. Mrs.MacNiel is the former BarbaraHowe, sister of Mrs. Vail.

Mrs. Frank Frost of ErnhoferDrive, entertained the Eaglebridge club at her home onMonday. The company gatheredfor dessert at 1:30, and in the playat two tables which followed Mrs.Frost, Mrs. George Scheniderand Mrs. Robert Enright wereprize winners.

The Women's Organization ofthe Patterson PresbyterianChurch is to hold an eveningmeeting this month, scheduledfor Friday of this week, June 16,and featuring a film showing,with the public invited to attend.The session will be held at theParish Hall, at 8 p.m., and thesound-color film shown will be"Through These Hands." Thefilm tells of the overseas medicalwork of the United PresbyterianChurch, with medical service inKorea described by a medicalmissionary, and also includingthe work of an eye clinic inPakistan.

Gayle Gilford, daughter of Mr.and Mr. Cal Gilford of Turk HillRoad, has been invited to attendthe "Summer Musk Camps" atthe University of South Carolina,June I to IS. Mrs. Gilford willaccompany Gayle to South Caro-lina to visit relatives during herstay. Gayle will matriculate at theUniversity in September. She isgraduating from Purdys CentralHigh School on June 26.

Miss Binnie Brady, who hasbeenvp student nurse at VassarHospital, since September 1960,will receive her cap at ceremoniesat the hospital on Friday evening.Her parents, Mr».and Mrs. Ben-jamin Brady, her sister, Barrie,

Barbara Beal, daughter of Dr.and Mrs. M. C. Beal, of Pough-keepsie and Tonetta Lake,Brewster, was graduated fromMt. Holyoke College on MOnday.

Henry J. Rechen received thedegree of Civil Engineering withSanitary option at Cornell Uni-versity on June 16. He is the sonof Mrs. Anna Rechen of Brewst-er, N.Y., and brother of Midship-man Behrend Rechen, U.S. NavalAcademy.

Dr. Donald W. Richie was theguest organist at St. Joseph'sChurch on Sunday at the eighto'clock Mass. The programconsisted of improvised classicalmusic and church hymns. Dr.Richie played with a confidenceand technique that brought outthe soft full tones of the beautifulHammond organ.

Bird Sim Coler, first comp-troller of New York City after itsconsolidation, former BoroughPresident of Brook-lyn and Commissioner of Wel-fare, 1918-1929, died June 12. Hewas 72 years of age. His wife,Mrs. Emily Moore Coler,.js apatient at Caledonia Hospital. Healso leaves a son, Eugene BirdColer, and two grandchildren,William Bird Coler, of 207th FieldArtillery, Camp Stewart Ga., andMrs. Sidney J. Norton, Brooklyn.Services were held at FairchildChapel, 88 Lefferts Place, Brook-lyn. Burial in Greenwood Cemet-ery. Born Oct. 9,1868 at Urbana,ILL, he came to Brooklyn with hisfamily in 1871 when his father,William Nichols Coler opened thebanking firm of W. N. Coler &Co. in Wall Street. Bird Colerattended Brooklyn PolytechnicInstitute and Phillips AndoverAcademy before joining hisfather's firm. He became anexpert in municipal finance andas comptroller he untangled thefinancial affairs of the ninety-five municipalities which had

' been incorporated in the city.Within a year he brought orderout of chaos. He also preventedTammany leaders from involvingthe city with a company, latershown to be largely a paper firm,who planned to buy up waterrights and build reservious for thecity once it had the contract. Alexander F. Lobdell, 3rd.nearly lost the sight of his left eyeon Saturday, when the cap of a 22bullet exploded while he wasaiming his rifle at a crow. Theservices of Dr. Geaver weresought to extract particles ofpower and to inject anti-lockjawserum. The treatment provedbeneficial.

Mrs. B. O. Nichols entertainedthe Cecilian Society with a picnicluncheon at her home on DingleRidge last Monday. At thebusiness meeting which wasconducted by Mrs. Fred Hall,president, there was much praisefor her excellent report. Planswere discussed for a concert to bepresented in the fall.

Miss Mary Bennett, eldestdaughter of Mr. and Mrs.William K. Bennet, and RaymondLudington, of Pawling, weremarried on Wednesday at St.Lawrence Church by the Rev.Thomas P. Phelan.
