If you possess the skills and abilities to teach a program, which would be a GREAT addition to our Parks and Recreation curriculum, we’d like to meet you. All you have to do is submit a class proposal telling us about your class. Classes are a great way to bring in extra revenue doing something you love to do. Feel the music, learn basic steps and Wepa! Cumbia has a characteristic heartbeat rhythm that you’ll know if you’ve ever heard it. Come and learn how to do basic to medium advanced dance steps in CUMBIA. No partner required but highly recommended.

Texas Two-Step CountryWestern Dance Lessons

Do you think you’re too old to learn to dance, or does it feel like you have two left feet? Let us show you how easy it is to learn how to dance the Texas Two-Step. The Harlingen Parks and Recreation Department along with Footworks invites you to join us at the Footworks Store for a Run Happy, Run Free Event. Every Tuesday / Thursday at 5am and out running at 5:10am. Choose your happy distance 5k, 10k , 2 miler, or 4 miler and choose your Happy pace from a 15min /mile to a sub 6 min/mile pace. Run safe in a group and meet new friends. Running and Injury prevention screens / consultations also available after the run with a Physical Therapist. All classes will meet August 6, 13, 20, & 27 at Hugh Ramsey Nature Park the Harlingen World Birding Center from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Come bird with experienced birders who can help you learn the birds in your backyard and beyond. Early Fall migrants are possible and Summer birds can still be seen. Special trips may be made to other birding sites.

Summer Playground Program

The Summer Playground Program offers a seven-week supervised fun and safe environment for kid’s ages 6-12. Each week will be something different; activities include playground games, arts and crafts, educational tours, different sports, and much more! Program will run from June 3, 2013 through July 19, 2013. Time: 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Cost: $35.00 per child. Additional fees will be required for field trips. Playground Site: Elementary School Gym, (space is limited).AIR CONDITIONED GYM!!!

Training will be provided for track and field events! In addition, participants will have the opportunity to compete in track meets across the Rio Grande Valley. State qualifiers will compete in the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Summer Games of Texas in Corpus Christi, Texas July 25 to 28, 2012. Workouts will be held in Harlingen South High School Mini-Stadium, and Pendleton Swimming Pool. This summer Tony Butler Golf Course will host its 5th Annual Jr. Tournament Series. The Tournaments are aimed at introducing different golf formats to the area youth. Our goal is to create a positive atmosphere for our children to compete and play golf with their peers.There will be a one time registration fee of $45.00, which will include lunch, green fees for ALL 7 tournaments (for the kids participating), and prizes.

Junior Summer Tennis Camp 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., Ages: 6-17, (Monday - Thursday) $50.00 per session This camp offers professional instruction and gives students the opportunity to progress in tennis at a much faster rate than in the regular lesson setting. All aspects of the game are covered: stroke production, singles and doubles strategies, conditioning and sportsmanship. Beginners and intermediates are welcome.

Quick Start Tennis, 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Ages: 6-10, $30.00 per week (Monday – Thursday)

Quickstart Tennis is a new format to help kids ten and under learn and play the game. To make it easier for them, we changed a few things: the court sizes, racquet sizes, balls, scoring system and even the net height.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Harlingen is participating in the Summer Food Service Program from June 3-August 16, 2013. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Meals will be provided at the sites and times each weekday as follows:

Hammer Head Swim Team ($45.00)The Hammerhead Competitive Swim Team is designed to help swimmers prepare for competitive swim meets, Jr. High, and High School Competitions. Competitive swim team is an increased commitment of time and energy so we have some requirements. Instructor: Rene Flores Min. 10, Max. 40 per month. Cost: $45.00/ Month

Requirements: Equipment required: goggles, swim cap, and swim wear1. Ages: 5 to 182. Must be able to swim continuously for 25 yards.3. Must have a passion and desire to swim at a competitive level.

Registration for the Hammer Head Swim Team for June will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Lon C. Hill Building, 502 E. Tyler. For the month of July, you can register at the Pendleton Aquatic Center on June 28th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Red Cross swim courses are designed to help people of all ages and varying abilities develop their water safety, survival and swim skills. Swimmers work through age-appropriate levels as they master basic through advanced skills. Choose from the following:• Parent and Child Aquatics (6 months to 3 years)• Learn-to-Swim (6 years-adult)

On May 18th, you can register for all sessions; after, all registration for the Learn to Swim Programs will be held on site at your child’s PREFERRED Pool. The program session is a 9 days of Learn to Swim for $25.00 a session.
