PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS
Tammy Delker, President
In June Don Bishop, two student affiliates and I represented the
ISRT at the ASRT Educational Symposium & Annual Governance
& House of Delegates Meeting in Orlando. What a great experience
to learn and be a part of such a great group of radiologic
technologists that are passionate about our profession.
The conference began with recognition of the most active ASRT
chapter and ASRT members who have passed away since the last
annual governance meeting. We quickly moved into the business
sessions that covered many topics from affiliate information to
proposed practice standards revisions and advisory opinion
statements. Many discussions ensued over practice standards for
nuclear medicine technologists and entry level technologists moving
from an associate degree to a bachelor degree program. Details may
be found on the ASRT’s website.
In going forward with the ISRT, we have begun conducting business
as one entity as opposed to eight areas. The new members-at-large
will work with any group to approve continuing education. All you
need to do is go to www.isrt.org and click on the “continued
learning” tab and fill out the application to host a CE event. If you
ever have any questions, please feel free to contact one of the board
members for help.
6
Also, the ISRT in keeping with its goal of helping our profession to
thrive has a scholarship available to technologists and student
radiographers. Two $500scholarships are awarded each year; one to
a 2nd
year student and the other to a registered technologist enrolled
or accepted into an educational program. Scholarship applications
will be accepted until 2-1-18. All applications must be submitted to:
Mary Cowan
1461 560th St
Cherokee, IA 51012
We also have a new opportunity to achieve a new level of
recognition as a “Fellow of the Iowa Society of
Radiologic Technologists”. It is based on a points system and
includes many categories to meet the qualifications. More
information may be found on the ISRT’s website under the
“membership” tab and then the “Fellows Guideline and Application”
tab. This is a great opportunity for individuals who have spent many
endless hours representing and volunteering for their profession.
As always, we are looking for individuals to volunteer on many
levels and always looking for speakers for meetings. If you are
willing or know of someone who would be willing to present at a
meeting, let us know.
Thank you for all you do in caring for patients and producing quality
radiographs!
Tammy Delker, MS, RT(R)
ISRT President

Executive Committee- Nothing to Report
2nd Vice President Report- I have been updating our Facebook
page with posts about one-year free membership for graduating students. I also uploaded several photos from the annual ISRT meeting. The link to Amanda Beane’s power point was also posted on Facebook from the isrt.org website resource page. We have had a few more people follow us on Twitter since I posted on Facebook about following us on Twitter. Each week I tweet a “tidbit from Tammy.” There has been a couple retweets and likes on the tidbits. In July, I plan to contact the Governor’s office and attain the proclamation for national radiologic technology week. Respectfully submitted, Amanda Meier RT(R) 2

Parliamentarian Report- I have received one notification of a

Bylaws Report- There are additional changes to the bylaws
suggested by ASRT since our April Board of Directors meeting and the
membership approval at the annual meeting. I will begin to implement
these changes and have available to the BOD by the September
meeting. This will include any bylaw changes made at the 2017 ASRT
meeting in June. I will send the newest revisions of bylaws to ASRT for
review by November 1, 2017. This should provide ASRT
parliamentarian time to review, make suggested additions / corrections
prior to February 1, 2018. Then we can notify proposed changes to
membership 30 days prior to annual meeting and vote on changes at the
2018 annual meeting. Current copies of bylaws will be distributed to all
officers and members of the ISRT Board of Directors.

Legislative Advisory- On May 10th, 2017 the Iowa State Board of
Health had their board meeting. The minutes to the meeting as of yesterday are not on line but I have attached the Intended Notice of Action which is on-line. This is the same information that has been discussed and shared about nuclear medicine technologist doing the CT part of PET/CT studies. We have 180 days to make any comments back to the IDPH. I did not see any changes from the first notices that were sent to us last year. Also attached is the Adopted rules for dental hand held devices that went into effect in May. Currently there are no bills listed for Iowa effecting Radiology, I unfortunately missed the May 3
rd phone call with the ASRT advisory
committee but attached are the minutes from that meeting as well as the meeting that I did attend on April 5
th. These minutes give you an
idea of the happenings in Region 5. My next meeting with the ASRT is June 7
th, at 2:00 p.m.
21
Also, I did volunteer to remain on with the ASRT CRTA as well for another year. I will also be helping with any updates for the ASRT MRI practice standards. Respectfully Submitted: Yvonne Grant
Webmaster- Hawkeye Static Editor- We’ve had 61 on-line
membership applications since January 1st.
After the April Annual Meeting, I did a search of usage on the
SwankHealthcare CE course site. I found that 13 people took courses above
the 6 free credits and did not pay in advance. So I sent them all an invoice
for the amount owed. Eleven people have settled their account within the 2
week deadline. Two are outstanding.
*I send everyone an invoice via e-mail with a 2 week deadline. The ones
that do not respond in 2 weeks, I mail their invoice. Those that have not
responded, two people, will be reported to the ARRT this next week.
Statistics:13 people
33 credits used without payment in advance
33 x $15/each= $480
I have recovered all but $60.
I have received several Graduating Student Membership applications
already to take advantage of the 1 year free membership.
To date, the 2017 class: 45.
37 are new members.
8 are returning members.
Deadline was June 1.
Please remember to forward your reports to me, in .doc, .docx, or excel so
they can get in the Hawkeye Static. [email protected]
PDF documents take too much time to convert or copy/paste with editing
done too.
The deadline for the next edition of the Hawkeye Static is: August 1st.
