TheHCIandlocalteamsscreened24childrenatthefour-year-oldInstitutoNacionaldeSalud
delNinoSanBorjaHospital(INSN),allofwhomhadmoreseriousheartissues.Onereasonfor
themoreseriouscasesisthatthelocal heartsurgeryteamisperformingaround200
surgerieseachyearontheirown. Theteamperformedlife-savingheartsurgerieson12of
thescreenedchildren.IncludedinthisgroupwasRobertoIbrahim,whoturned1yearold
whiletheHCIteamwasinLima.NamedforHCIsurgeonsRobertMichlerandIbrahim
Abdullah,RobertowasHCI’syoungestheartsurgerypatientwhenhereceivedlife-saving
surgeryatseven-daysoldinNovember2015.
