Fighting fres
POLICE in Heswall have been tring to track down the people who have been startingres in elds around the town.
Inspector Steve Hall said: Of concern has been an increase in the number of
incidents whereby young people have been congregating and setting re to litter,
shrubs and street
furniture.
This in itself is anti-social behaviour and has a damaging effect on the local
community. It also has other potential consequences when these res are on Whiteld
Common, The Pudddale and in The Dale
Due to the weather, a more serious incident could develop and so I am keen to
identif the perpetrators and deal with them accordingl. We are therefore working withWirral Anti-Social Behaviour Team and Merseside Fire Service in order to deter this
behaviour.

Flower club joins in Ness celebrationsHESWALL & Neston Flower Clubs joined Ness Botanic
Gardens in May to create a three-day oral exhibition
to celebrate 150 years of Arthur Kilpin Bulleys vision,
Beginnings & Beond.
Arthur Kilpin Bulley (1861-1942) had a Vicorian ethic of
public service having the gardens created for his own
delight then sharing his pleasure b opening them to
the public. In 1948 the gardens were given to Liverpool
University by Lois Bulley as a practical and tting tribute
to her father. These links still remain.
As links between China and Ness were strengthened
at Shanghais Expo 2010 and Liverpool has the oldest
Chinese communit in Britain, educational and cultural
links are strong and the oral displays reected this
oriental theme as well as the link with Bees Seeds Ltd.
Mrs June Lanceln Green MBE & friends helped re-create the histor of these events
with readings & character enactments.

If God wanted us to bend over hed put diamonds on the oor - Joan Rivers
Fiction: Island beneath the Sea by Isabel Allende
It is 1770 and Tt, born into slavery on Saint-Domingue,
has survived a childhood of brutalit and fear. When
ambitious Toulose Valmorain arrives on the island he
purchases young Tte as his bride. But bloody revolution
arrives at the plantation gates and they must ee the
threatening chaos of the colon which will become Haiti
for the raucous , free-wheeling enterprise of New Orleans.
There, Tt nally has the chance to forge a new life, but
onl if she can sever her ties to her husband. Spanningfour decades this is the moving stor of one womans
determination to nd love amid loss, to offer humanity to
others in spite of the wa she herself has been treated, and
to forge her own identit in the cruellest of circumstances. Full of the wonderful and
rich descriptions that have made Allende so popular with so man readers through the
ears.
Non-Fiction: To Miss with Love
by Katharine Birbalsingh
A third of teachers leave within their rst term on the job.
This one wouldnt quit for all the world. Written in the form of
a diar and spanning a ear of shocking truths and hard-won
victories, of ghts and phone-thefts, teenage pregnancies
and the dreaded OFSTED report, this is the remarkable
autobiograph of an inner-cit school teacher. Revealing the
extraordinar chaos, mismanagement and wrong-thinking
that plague our education sstem, it is a funn, surprising
and sometimes heartbreaking journe from the frontlines of
the classroom to the heart of modern Britain. Recommended
for trainee teachers and parents who want a greater insight
into what goes on in our schools.
Gardening: Gardening Women by Catherine Horwood

years before womens horticultural schools ofcially existed. Their inuence on the
stle of our gardens, frequentl unacknowledged, survives to the present da. In
this beautifull illustrated book Catherine Horwood, a passionate gardener herself,
attempts to redress the balance in a collection of true stories which are a celebration
of women who changed a male-dominated activit to one that is enjoed b all. Abrilliant present for an woman who loves gardening.

Artists ready for diamond jubilee showHESWALL Artists Association was formed when local artists
held an exhibition of arts and crafts during the Festival of
Britain in 1951.
